Respiratory Therapist Green Card Jobs
Respiratory therapist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to test the U.S. labor market before filing an I-140 petition on your behalf. Hospitals and health systems routinely sponsor foreign-trained RTs, and your RRT credential and state licensure are central to building a strong PERM case.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Respiratory Therapist
Verify your RRT credential transfers cleanly
PERM labor certification requires your qualifications to match the job requirements exactly. Confirm that your foreign respiratory therapy training meets the Registered Respiratory Therapist standard, since USCIS and DOL evaluate credential equivalency during the I-140 review stage.
Target hospitals with E-Verify enrollment history
Hospitals already enrolled in E-Verify are operationally prepared to sponsor foreign workers. Health systems with active PERM filing histories in pulmonology, ICU, and NICU units are the strongest candidates for EB-3 sponsorship of respiratory therapists.
Search green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter respiratory therapist openings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. This surfaces health systems already familiar with the PERM process rather than employers encountering it for the first time.
Check the prevailing wage before salary negotiations
DOL sets a prevailing wage for your role and geographic area, which your employer must meet or exceed throughout the PERM process. Look up your location's wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to avoid a filing that collapses at audit.
Negotiate PERM filing timing into your offer letter
Many hospitals delay PERM filing until probationary periods end, which can push your green card timeline out by a year or more. Request a written commitment to file within a defined window of your start date as part of your employment agreement.
Understand how EB-3 backlogs affect your country of birth
EB-3 priority dates move at different speeds depending on your country of chargeability, not citizenship. Applicants born in India or China face significantly longer waits than Rest of World applicants, so review the USCIS Visa Bulletin before choosing between EB-2 and EB-3 pathways.

Find Respiratory Therapist JobsRespiratory Therapist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do respiratory therapist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most respiratory therapist positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 sponsorship is available if the role requires a master's degree or if you qualify for a National Interest Waiver, which is uncommon for clinical RT positions. Your RRT credential and state licensure are the core qualifications DOL and USCIS evaluate during PERM and I-140 review.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a respiratory therapist?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary, subject to an annual lottery, and requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. PERM-based EB-3 sponsorship leads to permanent residency, has no annual lottery, and is better suited to clinical roles like respiratory therapy. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to eighteen months before the I-140 stage even begins, compared to H-1B processing in weeks.
Which types of employers sponsor respiratory therapists for green cards?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, long-term acute care hospitals, and health networks with established immigration programs are the most consistent sponsors. Facilities with dedicated HR immigration staff or retained immigration counsel are better positioned to manage the PERM audit risk and multi-year timeline. Smaller outpatient clinics or independent practices rarely have the infrastructure to support PERM filings.
How can I find respiratory therapist jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter respiratory therapist openings specifically by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're targeting employers who have already completed PERM filings rather than those new to the process. This significantly reduces the risk of accepting an offer from an employer who later declines to file or lacks the legal resources to complete sponsorship.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers mid-process?
If you change employers before your I-140 is approved, your PERM labor certification cannot transfer and the process restarts from the beginning with the new employer. After I-140 approval and with a priority date more than 180 days old, AC21 portability may allow you to move to a same or similar occupation without losing your place in the queue. Confirm any job change with an immigration attorney before resigning.
