Document your design portfolio for PERM
PERM requires proving your qualifications meet the job requirements. Compile a portfolio showing specialized design work tied to a specific field, plus transcripts and credential evaluations if your degree is from outside the U.S.
Target studios with established PERM history
Design consultancies that have filed PERM labor certifications before already understand the recruitment advertising and audit documentation requirements. Prioritize employers who have sponsored foreign nationals for EB-2 or EB-3 roles in design or creative services.
Use the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating salary
DOL requires your employer to pay the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. Check the OFLC Wage Search for the Design Consultant SOC code in your metro area so you enter salary discussions knowing the DOL wage floor your employer must meet.
Ask about employer PERM recruitment timelines upfront
PERM requires your employer to run DOL-mandated job advertisements before filing. That recruitment window alone adds two to three months before the I-140 petition even begins. Confirm your employer's timeline expectations before accepting an offer.
Search green card sponsors through Migrate Mate
Finding employers actively willing to file PERM for Design Consultants is the hardest part of the search. Migrate Mate filters jobs by green card sponsorship history so you target companies already experienced with EB-2 and EB-3 filings in design.

Find Design Consultant JobsDesign Consultant Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Design Consultant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Design Consultant positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers when the role requires a bachelor's degree in design, architecture, or a related field. If the position specifically requires a master's degree or equivalent advanced credentials, your employer may be able to file under EB-2 instead. The job description your employer submits to DOL during PERM determines which category applies.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Design Consultant?
H-1B is a temporary work visa with an annual lottery cap and a maximum six-year duration. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no expiration. There is no lottery for EB-3. The process takes longer overall, often two to four years for most nationalities, but the outcome is permanent rather than a time-limited authorization that must be renewed.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a Design Consultant employer?
Your employer must document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role by running DOL-mandated recruitment steps, including job postings, newspaper advertisements, and internal notices. DOL reviews the recruitment results before certifying the application. This process typically takes six to eighteen months before your employer can file the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS on your behalf.
How do I find Design Consultant jobs where employers are willing to sponsor a green card?
Many employers are open to sponsorship but don't advertise it in job postings. Migrate Mate indexes employers by their green card sponsorship filing history, so you can identify design firms and consultancies that have sponsored foreign workers for PERM-based roles before. Targeting employers with a sponsorship track record significantly improves your chances of finding a willing sponsor.
Can O*NET help me understand whether my Design Consultant work qualifies as a specialty occupation?
O*NET lists the typical education, skills, and tasks associated with design-related occupations, which can help you confirm whether your specific duties align with the job zone and degree requirements DOL expects for PERM. If your day-to-day responsibilities match the O*NET profile for the relevant SOC code, that supports your employer's case that the position genuinely requires a degree in a specific field.
