Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant
Verify your state EFDA credentials match federal requirements
PERM requires the employer to define minimum job requirements honestly. If your sponsoring state requires specific expanded-function certifications, document those credentials now so the labor certification reflects duties you already perform, not duties added to justify sponsorship.
Target multi-location dental groups for sponsorship
Solo dental practices rarely have the HR infrastructure to run a PERM campaign. Regional dental service organizations and multi-location groups file labor certifications more regularly and have established relationships with immigration counsel already managing the process.
Search green card sponsoring dental employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters dental assistant roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history, saving you from applying to practices that have never run a PERM case and won't start one for you.
Check the OFLC Wage Search before salary negotiations
PERM requires your offered wage to meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job zone and location. Reviewing the OFLC Wage Search beforehand tells you the floor the employer must meet, which protects you from underpayment that would delay certification.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility with your employer upfront
If your role requires only a certificate or associate degree, the employer will typically file under EB-3 skilled worker. Ask whether the position description can be restructured to require a bachelor's degree if you hold one, which may open an EB-2 pathway with shorter backlogs for some nationalities.
Prepare for the supervised recruitment audit window
PERM requires employers to complete DOL-supervised recruitment before filing, typically over 30 to 60 days. Make sure your employer understands this timeline so the process starts far enough in advance of your intended start date that a delayed certification doesn't leave you in status limbo.

Find Expanded Functions Dental Assistant JobsExpanded Functions Dental Assistant Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Expanded Functions Dental Assistant jobs typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most EFDA roles qualify under EB-3 skilled worker, since the position typically requires a certificate or associate degree rather than a bachelor's degree or higher. EB-2 is possible if the role is genuinely restructured to require an advanced degree and the employer can document that need honestly in the PERM labor certification. Your nationality affects priority date wait times more than the category choice at this level.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no annual renewal requirement, unlike H-1B status, which requires periodic extensions. EFDA roles often struggle to qualify as H-1B specialty occupations anyway, since the position does not always require a bachelor's degree. EB-3 sponsorship has no lottery and no annual cap at the petition level, though priority date backlogs vary by nationality.
How long does the green card process take for a sponsored dental assistant role?
PERM labor certification alone takes six months to over a year depending on whether DOL selects the case for audit. After PERM approval, your employer files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. If your priority date is current for your nationality, you can then file for adjustment of status. For nationals of countries with high demand such as India and China, total wait times can extend significantly beyond the initial filing stages.
Can I find dental employers who have already sponsored green cards for this role?
Yes. DOL PERM disclosure data is publicly available and shows which employers have filed labor certifications for dental assistant roles by job title and location. Migrate Mate surfaces this data in a searchable format, so you can identify dental practices and DSOs that have already run PERM cases rather than asking an employer to start a process they have never attempted.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers mid-process?
If you change employers before the I-140 is approved, the PERM certification is tied to the original employer and cannot be transferred. After I-140 approval and 180 days of pending adjustment of status, portability rules may allow you to move to a same or similar occupation with a new employer without restarting the process. USCIS evaluates whether the new role is substantially similar to the certified position.
