Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Pathology Technician
Verify your credentials meet PERM documentation standards
PERM requires your foreign pathology credentials to be evaluated by a NACES-approved service before the employer files. Get a degree equivalency report that maps your training to a U.S. associate or bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science.
Target labs with active PERM filing histories
Hospital-based reference labs, academic medical centers, and regional health systems file PERM applications far more consistently than small independent labs. Search DOL OFLC disclosure data for recent Pathology Technician filings to identify employers already familiar with the process.
Search sponsoring employers using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Pathology Technician openings by employers with green card sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to labs that have never navigated PERM. Sponsorship history is the strongest early signal that an employer will see the process through.
Confirm your role classification before the offer stage
PERM filings for Pathology Technicians typically use SOC code 29-2011. Verify with the hiring manager or HR that the posted role matches that classification, since a misclassified title can derail the prevailing-wage determination and delay certification.
Check prevailing wage levels using OFLC Wage Search
The PERM prevailing wage is determined by DOL before your employer advertises the position. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your job zone and location, so your offer letter salary won't fall below the certified threshold and trigger a denial.
Request that your employer start PERM recruitment early
PERM requires the employer to complete a mandatory recruitment period before filing. If you're already in the U.S. on a work visa, ask HR to begin PERM advertising before your current status expires, since the recruitment window alone can take three to six months.

Find Pathology Technician JobsPathology Technician Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Pathology Technician roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Pathology Technician positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers and professionals. If the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher and the candidate holds an advanced degree in a relevant clinical science field, the employer may sponsor at the EB-2 level instead. The classification is determined by the actual job requirements stated in the PERM filing, not the candidate's highest degree alone.
How does green card sponsorship through PERM differ from H-1B for this role?
Unlike the H-1B, PERM-based green card sponsorship carries no annual lottery and results in permanent residency rather than temporary status. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification, I-140 approval, and adjustment of status together take two to four years for most countries, and longer for nationals of India or China due to per-country priority date backlogs. The EB-3 category has no cap on petitions filed, only on visas issued annually.
How can I find Pathology Technician jobs where the employer is willing to sponsor a green card?
Use Migrate Mate to search Pathology Technician openings filtered by employers with confirmed green card sponsorship history. Many labs do not advertise PERM willingness in job postings, so searching by filing history is more reliable than relying on the job description. Hospital systems and academic medical centers tend to have dedicated immigration support teams that make the process more predictable.
Does my foreign pathology training count toward PERM eligibility?
Yes, but your foreign credentials must be formally evaluated before PERM can proceed. DOL requires a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized service that maps your degree to its U.S. equivalent. If your training was outside the United States, get this evaluation early, since it affects how the employer defines the minimum requirements in the PERM job description and the prevailing wage level USCIS and DOL apply.
Can I change employers after my green card sponsorship has started?
You can change employers after your I-140 has been approved for at least 180 days, using AC21 portability, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For Pathology Technicians, that generally means staying within clinical laboratory or pathology support roles. Changing employers before I-140 approval restarts the PERM process entirely, so timing matters if you're weighing a new offer.
