Green Card Radiologist Jobs
Radiologist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 petition. Board certification, fellowship training, and subspecialty credentials strengthen your petition and can support EB-2 classification for advanced-degree professionals.

Translate your credentials for PERM compliance
Foreign medical degrees must be evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before your employer files the PERM application. An evaluation that confirms U.S. equivalency removes a common documentation gap that delays labor certification.
Identify hospitals with active PERM filing history
Academic medical centers, large health systems, and radiology group practices are the employer types that regularly file PERM applications for radiologists. Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers by role and location before you apply.
Verify your subspecialty aligns with the job description
PERM requires the employer to define a specific job description that matches the offered role. If your subspecialty is neuroradiology or interventional radiology, confirm the posted position reflects that scope so your credentials map cleanly to the certified duties.
Confirm the employer's prevailing wage tier
DOL sets four wage levels for PERM-certified positions. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location before negotiating your offer, so you know the floor your employer must meet.
Ask about concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing eligibility
If a visa number is immediately available for your country of birth and preference category, your employer can file the I-140 petition and your I-485 adjustment of status application at the same time, cutting months off your green card timeline.
Start the ECFMG and state licensure process early
USCIS and most hospital employers require active state medical licensure before an I-140 petition can be filed for a radiologist. ECFMG certification and residency completion are prerequisites, so begin state board applications well ahead of any PERM start date.
Green Card Radiologist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a radiologist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Radiology qualifies under both categories. EB-2 applies when the position requires an advanced degree beyond the M.D. or when you hold a fellowship and subspecialty credentials that meet the advanced-degree standard. EB-3 covers the professional category for physicians with a standard medical degree and residency completion. Most hospital employers file under whichever category your credentials best support.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for radiologists?
The H-1B visa is a temporary work visa subject to an annual cap and lottery, with a maximum six-year duration. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the petition level and leads to permanent residency. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification and I-140 adjudication can take one to two years before your priority date becomes current, depending on your country of birth.
Which employers regularly sponsor radiologists for green cards?
Academic medical centers, Veterans Affairs health systems, large hospital networks, and teleradiology companies are the most consistent sponsors because they have immigration infrastructure in place and recurring hiring needs. Community hospitals and private practices occasionally sponsor but typically require a longer lead time to coordinate PERM filing. Use Migrate Mate to search for radiologist roles at employers with active green card sponsorship history.
Does subspecialty training affect how quickly a green card is approved?
Subspecialty credentials affect your preference category classification, not USCIS processing speed directly. However, if your fellowship qualifies you for EB-2 rather than EB-3, and your country of birth has a current EB-2 priority date, the overall timeline can be shorter. The PERM recruitment and adjudication timeline is the same regardless of subspecialty.
Can a radiologist work for a different employer while the green card is in process?
Yes, with conditions. Once your I-140 is approved and your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more, AC21 portability allows you to change to a same or similar occupational role without losing your priority date. Radiology roles within the same SOC code generally satisfy the same-or-similar requirement, but your new employer should confirm this with their immigration counsel before you make the switch.
