Green Card Family Medicine Physician Jobs
Family Medicine Physician roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which permanently authorizes your employment rather than capping you to a two- or three-year work visa. Hospitals, FQHCs, and group practices in underserved areas file PERM regularly for this role, making direct employer sponsorship a realistic path.

Verify your credentials meet PERM requirements
PERM requires your foreign medical degree to be recognized for U.S. licensure in the sponsoring state. Confirm your ECFMG certification and any state medical board prerequisites are complete before an employer files, since gaps delay or derail the labor certification.
Target FQHCs and underserved-area health systems
Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural health systems in Health Professional Shortage Areas file PERM for Family Medicine Physicians far more consistently than urban private practices, because chronic staffing gaps make labor market test failures less likely for these employers.
Search green-card-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Family Medicine Physician openings by employers with active PERM and I-140 filing history, so you're applying to organizations that have already committed to employment-based green card sponsorship rather than those open to it in theory only.
Understand how EB-2 and EB-3 categories apply to you
EB-2 requires an advanced degree or its equivalent; EB-3 covers professionals with a U.S.-equivalent bachelor's degree. Most Family Medicine Physicians qualify for EB-2, but your employer can file EB-3 concurrently if your country's EB-2 priority date is backlogged.
Ask employers about PERM timing before accepting offers
PERM filing timelines vary by employer. Confirm whether your prospective employer intends to file PERM within your first year of employment and whether they have in-house immigration counsel, since delays between hire date and PERM filing directly affect your green card timeline.
Check the prevailing wage before your offer letter is finalized
DOL sets the prevailing wage for your role and location through the OFLC Wage Search before PERM is filed. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure, so cross-check the posted wage level against your offer to avoid a PERM denial on wage grounds.
Green Card Family Medicine Physician: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Family Medicine Physician role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Family Medicine Physician positions qualify for EB-2 because the role requires a medical degree, which satisfies the advanced-degree requirement. EB-3 is also available if your employer files at that preference level or if you're pursuing concurrent filing. The right category depends on your credentials, your country of birth, and the current priority date chart.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status requiring renewal and subject to annual cap lotteries. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency with no renewal cycle once approved. For Family Medicine Physicians, EB-3 has no annual numeric cap concerns for most nationalities, and EB-2 is only backlogged for applicants born in India or China. Green card sponsorship also lets you change roles with the same employer without restarting the process after your I-140 is approved and you've used AC21 portability.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for a physician employer?
The employer recruits domestically through DOL-mandated advertising, documents that no qualified U.S. worker was available, then files the PERM application with DOL. For Family Medicine Physician roles in Health Professional Shortage Areas, employers may qualify for a Schedule A waiver that bypasses the recruitment phase entirely. PERM approval triggers I-140 filing with USCIS, followed by adjustment of status or consular processing.
How do I find Family Medicine Physician jobs that sponsor green cards?
Use Migrate Mate to search Family Medicine Physician openings filtered by employers with documented PERM and I-140 sponsorship history. Many employers are open to sponsorship but haven't committed to it in the job posting, so filtering by verified filing history saves significant time and avoids offers that stall at the immigration approval stage.
Can my employer file PERM if I'm already in the U.S. on a work visa?
Yes. PERM is a permanent residency process that runs separately from your current nonimmigrant status. Your employer can file PERM while you're working on H-1B, J-1 visa, or O-1 visa, and your existing visa remains valid throughout. Filing early matters because the priority date is set when PERM is submitted, and earlier filing reduces the wait if your country's visa queue is backlogged.
