Field Services Engineer Green Card Jobs
Field Services Engineer roles qualify for green card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3, depending on the degree requirement your employer documents in the PERM labor certification. Most positions fall under EB-3 as skilled worker roles, though advanced-degree candidates may qualify for EB-2. Sponsorship typically begins once you have a firm offer in hand.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Field Services Engineer
Document your field credentials before applying
Gather degree transcripts, professional licenses, and employer letters that confirm hands-on technical experience. PERM requires your employer to prove you meet the minimum requirements they advertise, so your documentation must match the job description exactly.
Use O*NET to verify your occupation code
Field Services Engineer maps to specific O*NET occupation codes that DOL uses during the PERM wage determination. Confirming the correct code before your employer files prevents prevailing wage mismatches that can delay or derail certification.
Search for employers with active PERM filing history
Target companies that have sponsored field engineers before, not just those with open roles. Migrate Mate lets you filter by employers with green card sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on companies already set up to file.
Ask about the job description before the offer
The PERM-advertised job description locks in your minimum qualifications for the entire green card process. Negotiate duties and degree requirements before signing the offer letter, since changes after PERM filing can force a costly restart.
Check the prevailing wage using OFLC Wage Search
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your role and work location before PERM can be filed. Use OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level yourself so you can flag any gap with your employer early.
Plan for travel restrictions during adjustment of status
Field Services Engineers frequently travel domestically and internationally, but once you file Form I-485 for adjustment of status, international travel requires an advance parole document. Coordinate with your employer so client site travel doesn't jeopardize your pending green card application.

Find Field Services Engineer JobsField Services Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Field Services Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on how your employer structures the job requirements. If the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, it qualifies under EB-3 as a professional role. If your employer documents a requirement for an advanced degree or you have strong credentials that support an EB-2 National Interest Waiver, EB-2 is possible. Most field engineer roles are filed under EB-3.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization period. There's no annual lottery at the EB-3 level for many countries, so your case moves forward based on priority date rather than random selection. The tradeoff is time: PERM alone takes six months to a year before USCIS even reviews your I-140 petition, making total timelines longer than a typical H-1B approval.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules you can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days, provided the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For Field Services Engineers, a move to a comparable technical field role at a different company generally qualifies, but you should confirm the job duties align closely before making the switch.
How do I find Field Services Engineer jobs where employers will sponsor a green card?
Start with Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Generic job boards don't surface PERM filing data, so you can spend months applying to companies that have never sponsored before. Focusing on employers with prior PERM certifications in engineering roles gives you a much more actionable target list from the start.
What happens to my green card case if my employer does a layoff or restructuring?
If your employer withdraws the I-140 petition before it's approved, or terminates your employment before your I-485 has been pending 180 days, your green card process generally cannot continue with that employer's petition. After 180 days of I-485 pendency, AC21 portability may protect you if you move to a similar role. Keeping your I-140 approval notice and documenting your job duties carefully gives you the strongest position if your employer's situation changes.
