Document your account revenue ownership
PERM requires your employer to define the role's duties precisely. Gather P&L records, client contract summaries, and team org charts that show you directed accounts, not just serviced them. These documents support the job description USCIS will scrutinize.
Target agencies with active PERM filing history
Large holding company agencies and independent shops that routinely sponsor foreign nationals have internal HR processes for PERM already built out. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify employers who have certified roles at the Group Account Director level before.
Search green card roles through Migrate Mate
Filter for Group Account Director positions where employers have confirmed EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship intent. Migrate Mate surfaces roles by sponsorship status so you're not wasting outreach on employers who've never navigated PERM.
Verify your degree field aligns with the SOC code
DOL classifies this role under advertising and promotions management. If your degree is in an unrelated field, your employer's PERM prevailing-wage request may face DOL scrutiny. Cross-check your credentials against the O*NET occupation profile before negotiations begin.
Ask about priority date strategy during offer negotiation
EB-3 has no annual cap concerns for most countries at filing, but your priority date locks in when your employer submits the PERM application. Negotiating your start date to accelerate PERM filing by even a few months can meaningfully shorten your total green card timeline.
Confirm your offered wage meets the prevailing-wage level
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your geographic area before PERM certifies. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check Level III or Level IV wages for your metro, and flag any gap to your employer before the labor certification is filed.
Green Card Group Account Director: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Group Account Director role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Group Account Director positions qualify for EB-3 sponsorship as professional roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree. EB-2 sponsorship applies when the position requires an advanced degree or your employer can demonstrate the role demands specialized expertise beyond a standard undergraduate credential. The specific educational requirement written into the PERM job description determines which category fits.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is temporary and subject to annual lottery selection, capped at 85,000 registrations per fiscal year. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no renewal cycle once approved. The timeline is longer, typically three to five years from PERM filing to receiving your green card, but it removes the uncertainty of lottery outcomes and status expiration entirely.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for this job?
Your employer files the PERM application with DOL to certify that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. DOL requires a defined recruitment period using specific advertising methods before the employer submits. Once PERM certifies, your employer files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. After I-140 approval, you file for adjustment of status or attend consular processing to receive your green card.
Which employers typically sponsor Group Account Directors for green cards?
Integrated marketing agencies, public relations firms, media buying companies, and large in-house marketing departments at Fortune 500 companies are the most active sponsors at this level. Employers who have sponsored H-1B workers are more likely to have the legal infrastructure to manage PERM. Use Migrate Mate to find Group Account Director roles filtered specifically by green card sponsorship availability.
Can I switch employers during the green card process?
You can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your priority date is at least 180 days old, under AC21 portability rules. The new role must be in the same or a similar occupational classification. If you switch before those conditions are met, your employer's PERM and I-140 filings are typically abandoned and the process restarts from the beginning with your new employer.
