Green Card Head Of Engineering Jobs
Head Of Engineering roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when employers file a PERM labor certification demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available. Engineering leadership positions typically satisfy the advanced-degree requirement, making EB-2 the most common pathway. Sponsorship leads to permanent residency, not a temporary work visa.

Verify your degree meets EB-2 requirements
EB-2 requires a U.S. master's degree or foreign equivalent, or a bachelor's plus five progressive years of post-baccalaureate experience. Document each promotion and scope expansion in writing before employers begin your PERM filing.
Target employers with dedicated immigration programs
Large engineering-intensive companies in semiconductors, aerospace, and enterprise software routinely absorb multi-year PERM timelines. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to confirm an employer has filed engineering leadership petitions, not just individual contributor roles.
Search for sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Head Of Engineering roles by employers with active green card filing history. Targeting companies that have sponsored similar leadership roles reduces the risk of starting a PERM process with an employer unfamiliar with engineering-level petitions.
Understand how PERM job requirements affect you
The job description filed with DOL for PERM becomes the minimum requirement for the role permanently. If the employer lists specific tech stacks or team-size thresholds, your credentials must match at filing time, not just at hire.
Negotiate filing timeline into your offer stage
PERM recruitment must begin before your I-140 petition, adding months before USCIS adjudication starts. During offer negotiation, confirm the employer's standard timeline from hire to PERM filing initiation and whether they pay attorney and filing fees.
Use O*NET to align your title to DOL classifications
DOL assigns prevailing wages based on occupation codes, not job titles. Cross-reference your role against the O*NET profile for your actual duties, then use the OFLC Wage Search to identify whether your offer meets the Level III or Level IV wage threshold required for senior engineering leadership.
Green Card Head Of Engineering: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head Of Engineering role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Head Of Engineering positions qualify for EB-2 because they require a master's degree or equivalent, which can include a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience. EB-3 is available when the role requires only a bachelor's degree. Your employer specifies the category when filing the PERM labor certification with DOL.
How does the green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa with an annual lottery and a six-year base limit. Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no renewal cycle. There is no lottery for EB-2 or EB-3 petitions. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status together take several years, versus H-1B approval in a few months.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from the employer?
The employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment campaign proving no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role at the prevailing wage. For a Head Of Engineering position, this typically includes print and online advertising, internal posting, and documented review of all applicants. The employer, not you, drives this process and bears the filing costs.
How can I find Head Of Engineering jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you filter engineering leadership roles by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Many companies sponsor H-1B visas but have never initiated a PERM filing for a leadership position, so filtering by sponsorship type at the search stage saves months of negotiation with employers who aren't set up for it.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved but before I get my green card?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules you can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, as long as the new role is in the same or similar occupational classification. For Head Of Engineering, the new role generally needs to remain in engineering management. Consult an immigration attorney before making the move.
