Hospitalist Green Card Jobs
Hospitalist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing your I-140 petition. Most sponsoring health systems treat PERM as a standard onboarding step for foreign-trained physicians, making this one of the more accessible green card pathways in U.S. hospital medicine.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Hospitalist
Verify your credentials before PERM starts
ECFMG certification, USMLE passage, and state licensure must all be in order before your employer can file PERM. Gaps in any of these documents stall the labor certification and can reset your priority date.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter hospitalist openings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 filing history, so you're not cold-applying to health systems that have never run PERM for a physician before.
Negotiate PERM filing into your employment contract
DOL requires the employer to pay PERM filing costs, but timing and I-140 premium processing are negotiable. Get a written commitment on when PERM will be initiated relative to your start date before you sign.
Request premium processing for your I-140 petition
USCIS offers premium processing for I-140 petitions, cutting adjudication to 15 business days. For hospitalists with portable priority dates under AC21 portability rules, a faster I-140 approval protects your green card queue position sooner.

Find Hospitalist JobsHospitalist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do hospitalist jobs commonly come with green card sponsorship?
Yes. Physician shortages in hospital medicine mean many health systems actively sponsor foreign-trained hospitalists through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM. Larger hospital networks and academic medical centers tend to have dedicated immigration teams that handle labor certification routinely, making sponsorship a standard part of the hiring process rather than an exception.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for hospitalists?
H-1B is temporary, capped at 65,000 per year, and subject to an annual lottery. EB-3 sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap on petitions filed, though per-country backlogs apply. The PERM process is longer upfront but the outcome is lawful permanent residence, not a temporary status requiring renewal every few years.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from the hospital sponsoring me?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-prescribed recruitment campaign documenting that no minimally qualified U.S. workers applied for your specific hospitalist role. This includes newspaper ads, online postings, and internal notices. Only after that recruitment period closes and DOL certifies the application can your employer file the I-140 immigrant petition on your behalf.
How can I find hospitalist jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search hospitalist openings specifically filtered by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can focus on health systems that have already run PERM for physicians. This avoids wasting time on applications to employers unfamiliar with the labor certification process for clinical roles.
Can I change hospital employers after my PERM is filed without losing my green card progress?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, if your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days, you can move to a same or similar hospitalist role at a new employer without losing your priority date. Consult an immigration attorney before switching to confirm your specific situation qualifies.
