Green Card Licensed Clinical Social Worker Lcsw Jobs
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 immigrant petition. Hospitals, community mental health centers, and government agencies regularly sponsor LCSWs for permanent residency, particularly in underserved areas where demand consistently outpaces the domestic workforce.

Verify your LCSW license transfers across states
PERM and I-140 filings are tied to a specific employer location, and your active state licensure must match the job site. Confirm reciprocity or endorsement pathways before targeting roles in states where you aren't yet licensed.
Target employers with existing PERM filing history
Hospitals under critical staffing shortages and federally qualified health centers have filed PERM applications for LCSWs before, which means their HR and legal teams already understand the process. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to confirm prior filings by job title.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to surface employers actively sponsoring LCSW roles under EB-2 or EB-3, filtered by location and sponsorship history, so you spend time applying where PERM infrastructure already exists rather than educating employers from scratch.
Document your supervised clinical hours before applying
PERM job requirements must match your actual credentials. Have certified records of your post-master's supervised hours ready, since DOL audits frequently request proof that the foreign worker met the employer's stated minimum requirements at the time of filing.
Ask employers about EB-2 versus EB-3 routing during interviews
LCSWs with a master's degree qualify for EB-2 advanced-degree classification, which can shorten the green card timeline for many countries of birth. Clarify early whether the sponsoring employer's immigration counsel typically files under EB-2 or defaults to EB-3.
Understand that PERM recruitment timelines affect your start date
DOL requires the employer to complete a supervised recruitment campaign lasting at least 30 days before filing PERM. Build this into your timeline when negotiating an offer, since the full green card process from PERM to I-485 approval often spans two or more years.
Green Card Licensed Clinical Social Worker Lcsw: Frequently Asked Questions
Do LCSW roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply. LCSWs holding a master's degree in social work qualify for EB-2 classification as advanced-degree professionals. Those sponsored under EB-3 are categorized as skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. The employer's immigration counsel selects the category based on how the job requirements are defined in the PERM application.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for an LCSW?
PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status with an expiration date. Unlike the H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery for EB-3, and most nationalities face no significant backlog at that preference level. The trade-off is time: PERM requires a DOL-supervised recruitment process before filing, making the overall timeline longer than a typical H-1B petition.
How do I find employers who have sponsored LCSWs for green cards before?
DOL PERM disclosure data is publicly available and lists historical filings by job title and employer. You can cross-reference this with active job postings to identify organizations already familiar with the sponsorship process. Migrate Mate aggregates this data so you can search specifically for LCSW roles at employers with confirmed green card sponsorship history.
Can a government or nonprofit employer sponsor an LCSW for a green card?
Yes. Federal, state, and county agencies as well as nonprofit community mental health organizations regularly sponsor LCSWs through the PERM process. Some government employers also qualify for Schedule A Group II designation for certain shortage occupations, which can bypass the standard DOL recruitment requirement and shorten the overall timeline significantly.
Does my LCSW state license affect where my employer can sponsor me?
Your active license must be valid in the state where the sponsored position is located. PERM job requirements filed with DOL must reflect the actual license the employer will require you to hold on day one of employment. If you're licensed in one state but the role is in another, you'll need to complete that state's endorsement or reciprocity process before or concurrent with the PERM filing.
