Green Card Licensed Therapist: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Licensed Therapist roles qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 green card categories?
Yes. A Licensed Therapist with a master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related clinical field typically qualifies for EB-2 as an advanced-degree professional. Candidates with a bachelor's degree plus the required supervised clinical hours generally qualify under EB-3 as a skilled worker. How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for therapists?
H-1B sponsorship grants temporary work authorization for up to six years and is subject to an annual lottery cap. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency with no annual cap concerns at the EB-3 level for most countries outside India and China. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM recruitment, I-140 adjudication, and adjustment of status together typically take two to four years for therapists from most nationalities.
