Plastic Surgeon Green Card Jobs
Plastic Surgeon roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 immigrant petition. Board certification, fellowship training, and subspecialty credentials all strengthen your PERM case and your candidacy with sponsoring hospital systems and private practices.

Align your credentials with PERM requirements
PERM requires your employer to define a minimum job requirement. If your offer letter lists fellowship training or board certification as required, confirm your credentials match exactly, since any gap triggers a denial.
Target hospital systems with active PERM history
Academic medical centers and large hospital networks file PERM applications regularly for surgeons. Prioritize employers whose credentialing and HR teams already understand the DOL recruitment documentation rules for physician roles.
Search green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Plastic Surgeon openings by employers with green card sponsorship history. This lets you focus your application effort on practices and systems already set up to run the PERM process.
Verify prevailing wage before accepting an offer
DOL's OFLC Wage Search sets the minimum wage your employer must pay under PERM. Confirm the offered salary meets or exceeds the Level II or Level III prevailing wage for your SOC code and geographic location before signing.
Plan your timeline around state medical licensing
USCIS requires proof of licensure to approve an I-140 for physician roles in most cases. Start your state medical board application as soon as you have a sponsoring employer, since licensing timelines can delay your green card filing.

Find Plastic Surgeon JobsPlastic Surgeon Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Plastic Surgeon role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Plastic Surgeon positions qualify for EB-2 because they require a medical degree plus residency and often fellowship training, meeting the advanced-degree standard. Some employers file under EB-3 if the job description lists an MD as a professional-level requirement. Your employer's HR and immigration counsel determine the classification based on how the role is defined in the PERM application.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for plastic surgeons?
H-1B is a temporary status capped at six years without an approved I-140, subject to an annual lottery, and requires renewal every three years. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no time limit. There's no lottery for employment-based green cards, and EB-3 sponsorship is available to applicants from most countries without significant backlog. The full PERM-to-green-card timeline typically runs two to four years depending on your category and country of birth.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for a Plastic Surgeon?
Your employer files an ETA Form 9089 with DOL after completing a mandatory recruitment period, typically 30 to 60 days, to document that no qualified U.S. worker was available for the role. For physician positions, the employer must define specific minimum requirements tied to the job, not to you personally. Once PERM is certified, your employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS, and you proceed to adjustment of status or consular processing.
Can I find Plastic Surgeon jobs that already offer green card sponsorship?
Yes. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Plastic Surgeon roles where employers have green card sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to practices unfamiliar with PERM. Targeting employers with existing immigration infrastructure saves months of back-and-forth during the offer and onboarding stage.
Does board certification affect my green card application as a plastic surgeon?
Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery isn't a USCIS requirement by itself, but it often appears as a minimum requirement in the employer's PERM job description. If it's listed, your credentials must match. For EB-2 classification, fellowship training and board certification help establish that the role genuinely requires an advanced degree and specialized expertise, which supports the employer's classification decision.
