Green Card Registered Nurse Jobs
Registered Nurse roles are among the most actively sponsored positions in U.S. employment-based green card programs. Hospitals and health systems file PERM labor certifications under EB-3, and in some cases EB-2, to permanently hire internationally trained nurses. Sponsorship typically begins after a full-time offer and state licensure, with CGFNS credential evaluation required for most foreign-trained applicants.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Registered Nurse
Get your CGFNS credentials evaluated early
PERM sponsorship for foreign-trained nurses requires credential evaluation before DOL filing can begin. Start your CGFNS or VisaScreen certification as soon as possible. Delays here stall your employer's entire labor certification timeline.
Target hospitals with established immigration infrastructure
Health systems that sponsor nurses regularly have in-house immigration counsel and PERM filing experience. Facilities with international nurse recruitment programs are more likely to understand EB-3 timelines and cover attorney fees on your behalf.
Clarify state licensure requirements before accepting offers
PERM sponsorship requires you to hold or be eligible for a nursing license in the state where you'll work. Some states require NCLEX passage and Social Security Number issuance before granting full licensure, which affects your start date.
Understand your priority date and country backlog
EB-3 green card availability depends on your birth country, not citizenship. Nurses born in countries with high demand, such as the Philippines or India, face longer waits. USCIS publishes the Visa Bulletin monthly so you can track your place in the queue.
Search green card sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Registered Nurse roles by employers with active PERM and EB-3 filing history. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying and puts you in front of health systems already set up to sponsor permanent residency.
Ask employers who covers PERM advertising costs
DOL requires employers to run recruitment advertising before PERM is filed. Confirm in writing whether your employer absorbs those costs. Some contracts shift administrative expenses to nurses, which PERM regulations prohibit for certain categories of fees.
Green Card Registered Nurse: Frequently Asked Questions
Does EB-3 green card sponsorship work differently for nurses than for other healthcare roles?
Yes. Registered Nurses are classified as Schedule A workers by DOL, which means employers can skip the standard PERM labor market test and file directly with USCIS under a Schedule A Group I designation. This shortcut can significantly reduce the time between job offer and I-140 petition filing, though credential evaluation and state licensure requirements still apply.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship compare to H-1B sponsorship for Registered Nurses?
The H-1B visa has an annual lottery cap of 85,000 slots and does not guarantee selection. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM is uncapped at the petition level and leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status. The tradeoff is timeline: EB-3 takes longer from offer to approval, but nurses born in most countries outside India and China can see priority dates move steadily.
Can a foreign-trained nurse start working while waiting for the green card to be approved?
Yes, if your employer sponsors an H-1B or TN visa to bridge employment while your I-140 and adjustment of status are pending. Once your I-485 has been filed and a work permit is issued by USCIS, you can work for any employer. Some nurses use concurrent H-1B and green card sponsorship from the same employer to maintain legal status throughout the process.
Where can I find Registered Nurse jobs that include EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Registered Nurse positions filtered specifically by employers with active employment-based green card filing history. Rather than sifting through general job listings, you can identify health systems that have already navigated the PERM and I-140 process for nurses in similar roles.
What credential documents do I need before a U.S. employer can file PERM for a nursing role?
Most foreign-trained nurses need a CGFNS VisaScreen certificate, which includes a credentials evaluation, English language proficiency test results such as IELTS or TOEFL, and NCLEX passage. DOL requires that these requirements are met before a Schedule A PERM petition is filed with USCIS. Your employer's immigration attorney will typically provide a checklist specific to your country of nursing education.
