Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Transition Specialist
Match your degree to the posted requirements
PERM requires the employer to advertise the role's actual minimum requirements. If the job posting lists a bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field, your credential must meet that exactly before the labor certification can proceed.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Government agencies, workforce development nonprofits, and large healthcare systems regularly sponsor Transition Specialists through PERM. Search DOL disclosure data to confirm which specific employers have filed for this occupation before approaching them.
Get your foreign credential evaluated early
If your counseling or human services degree was earned outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before applying. PERM audits often request this documentation, and gaps delay the entire sponsorship timeline by months.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate by job title and sponsorship type to surface employers actively filing EB-2 or EB-3 green card petitions for Transition Specialist roles, so you spend time on leads with a real filing track record rather than guessing.
Negotiate a start date that accommodates PERM timelines
PERM labor certification alone takes six to eighteen months before an I-140 can be filed. Raise the sponsorship conversation during the offer stage so the employer understands the timeline and structures your start date and employment agreement accordingly.
Confirm the employer can satisfy prevailing wage requirements
Before accepting an offer, check the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage for the Transition Specialist role in that metro area. PERM requires the employer to pay at least that wage, so a low offer can stall or kill the filing.

Find Transition Specialist JobsTransition Specialist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Transition Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Transition Specialist positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree. Roles with a stated requirement for a master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation, or a related field can qualify under EB-2. The classification depends on the minimum education the employer lists in the PERM labor certification, not on your personal credentials alone.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 is permanent and not subject to the H-1B annual lottery. EB-3 has no numerical cap concern for most countries, so approval depends on filing merit rather than luck. The tradeoff is a longer overall timeline, often two to four years from PERM filing to an approved adjustment of status, compared to H-1B's faster initial authorization.
Which employers typically sponsor green cards for Transition Specialists?
Government agencies, state workforce development boards, veteran service organizations, rehabilitation hospitals, and community college career centers are among the most active sponsors. These employers hire Transition Specialists at scale and have HR infrastructure to manage PERM filings. DOL's public disclosure data confirms which organizations have filed for this specific occupation previously.
How can I find Transition Specialist jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Transition Specialist roles where employers have active EB-2 or EB-3 green card filing histories, filtering out positions that only offer H-1B or no sponsorship at all. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations late in the hiring process.
What happens to my status while waiting for the green card to be approved?
You must maintain valid work authorization throughout the process. If you're on H-1B, your employer can file extensions while your I-140 and adjustment of status are pending. Once your I-140 is approved and you file I-485, you can request an Employment Authorization Document from USCIS, which lets you work independently of your underlying visa status while awaiting the final green card decision.
