Green Card Ultrasound Technologist Jobs
Ultrasound Technologist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which permanently authorizes your U.S. employment rather than setting a visa expiration date. Hospitals, imaging centers, and outpatient clinics routinely file I-140 petitions for credentialed sonographers, making this one of the more accessible green card pathways in allied health.

Verify your credentials meet ARDMS requirements
Most PERM-sponsoring employers require active ARDMS or ARRT registry credentials before filing. Confirm your certification is current and transferable to U.S. standards before applying, because credential gaps delay the labor certification timeline by months.
Target hospital systems with prior PERM filings
Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure data for employers who have previously certified Ultrasound Technologist roles under SOC code 29-2032. Repeat filers have established internal processes and are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-filing than first-time sponsors.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility before accepting offers
EB-2 requires a bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience or an advanced degree. EB-3 covers associate-degree holders with two years of training. Knowing which category fits your profile lets you push for the correct petition type from the start.
Use Migrate Mate to filter roles by sponsorship history
Sorting through postings manually wastes time on employers who list green card sponsorship aspirationally but have never filed. Migrate Mate surfaces ultrasound roles at employers with verified PERM filing history, so your outreach reaches decision-makers who already know the process.
Request a prevailing wage determination before negotiating
Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your specific metropolitan area and experience level. Check the OFLC Wage Search for your job zone before salary discussions, since an offer below the prevailing wage invalidates the PERM filing.
Understand how concurrent filing changes your timeline
If your priority date is current at I-140 approval, USCIS allows concurrent filing of the I-140 and I-485, eliminating the wait between petition approval and adjustment of status. Confirm with your sponsoring employer whether they will support concurrent filing.
Green Card Ultrasound Technologist: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Ultrasound Technologist roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most sonographer positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 sponsorship is available if the role requires a master's degree or if you have a bachelor's degree with five or more years of progressive specialized experience. Your specific credentials and the employer's minimum job requirements determine which category applies.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status with a two- to three-year initial period, subject to an annual lottery with limited slots. PERM-based EB-3 sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the petition level, though per-country backlogs can extend wait times for nationals from high-demand countries. The PERM process also requires your employer to document a full domestic recruitment effort before USCIS approves the I-140 petition.
How can I find employers that actively sponsor green cards for Ultrasound Technologist roles?
Use Migrate Mate to search for ultrasound positions filtered by employers with verified PERM filing history. This removes postings from employers who mention sponsorship in job ads but have never completed an actual filing, saving you weeks of outreach to the wrong contacts.
Does my foreign ultrasound credential count toward the PERM labor certification requirements?
Foreign credentials must be evaluated by a NACES-member credential evaluation service to confirm U.S. equivalency. For clinical roles, ARDMS or ARRT registration is typically required independently of the degree equivalency evaluation. Both are needed before your employer can include you in a PERM filing without risking a DOL audit or denial.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers during the I-140 or I-485 stage?
If your I-140 has been approved for 180 days or more and your I-485 is pending, AC21 portability allows you to transfer sponsorship to a new employer in a same or similar occupation. Ultrasound Technologist roles across different specialties, such as vascular versus diagnostic, generally qualify as similar enough under SOC code 29-2032, but confirm this with your new employer before making any move.
