Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in University Registrar
Target institutions with active PERM filing history
Public universities and large private institutions file PERM petitions regularly for administrative leadership roles. Search DOL disclosure data to identify campuses that have sponsored Registrar or academic affairs positions in the past three years.
Clarify the degree field requirement early
PERM job descriptions for Registrar roles often specify a degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field. Confirm your degree field maps to that language before an offer is extended, not after the recruitment process starts.
Use Migrate Mate to filter by green card sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate for University Registrar openings where employers have confirmed PERM sponsorship history. This saves time vetting institutions and lets you focus outreach on campuses already familiar with the EB-2 and EB-3 filing process.
Understand the PERM recruitment audit window
DOL requires employers to complete specific recruitment steps before filing PERM. Ask your prospective employer where they are in that process, since the certified application can only be submitted after a defined advertising period ends.
Account for priority date backlog before accepting an offer
USCIS assigns a priority date when your I-140 petition is approved. For nationals of high-demand countries, the wait for an available visa number can extend years beyond I-140 approval, even at the EB-3 level. Factor this into your employment negotiation.

Find University Registrar JobsUniversity Registrar Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a University Registrar role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on how the institution defines the position. EB-2 covers the role when a master's degree or equivalent is required. EB-3 applies when a bachelor's degree is the stated minimum. The employer's PERM job description controls which category is used, so the degree requirement written into the posting determines your path, not your actual credentials.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work visa. There is no annual lottery, and EB-3 petitions for most countries outside India and China face no multi-year backlog. The tradeoff is timeline: the full PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status process typically takes two to four years, compared to a few months for an initial H-1B approval.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for a Registrar hire?
The employer must advertise the position through DOL-prescribed channels, document that no qualified U.S. worker applied, and file an application with DOL certifying the prevailing wage and recruitment results. For University Registrar roles, the institution's HR and legal team typically manages this process. Your role is to provide degree documentation, transcripts, and a detailed work history that matches the job requirements exactly.
How can I find universities that actively sponsor green cards for Registrar positions?
Use Migrate Mate to search for University Registrar roles filtered by green card sponsorship history. You can also review OFLC Wage Search data and DOL PERM disclosure files to identify institutions that have filed for similar administrative titles. Public research universities and large community college systems tend to have established sponsorship processes for senior academic affairs roles.
Can I use O*NET data to strengthen my PERM petition for a Registrar role?
O*NET profiles the University Registrar occupation with detailed task and skills data that aligns with DOL's specialty occupation and PERM requirements. Reviewing the O*NET entry helps you confirm your experience matches the standard job duties, and it gives your employer's attorney a reference point when drafting the PERM job description to ensure the role is accurately classified.
