Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Personal Assistant
Document your specialized administrative credentials clearly
PERM requires your employer to prove the role demands your specific qualifications. Gather transcripts, professional development certificates, and performance reviews that show specialized skills like executive-level calendar management, confidential correspondence handling, or multilingual communication.
Target employers with dedicated HR or legal sponsorship infrastructure
Large corporations, law firms, and financial institutions regularly sponsor Personal Assistants because they have in-house immigration counsel and established PERM workflows. Smaller household employers rarely do, so focus your search on organizations with formal HR departments.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Personal Assistant roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This cuts through listings where sponsorship is theoretical rather than a real, funded commitment from the hiring team.
Understand how your role gets classified for PERM
DOL uses the O*NET occupation profile to benchmark your duties and required degree. If your Personal Assistant duties overlap with executive assistant or administrative manager functions, your employer may need to align the job description carefully to match the correct Standard Occupational Classification code.
Negotiate the sponsorship commitment before accepting an offer
Ask directly whether the employer will cover PERM advertising costs and attorney fees, and confirm the timeline for filing. Some employers offer sponsorship in principle but delay filing for two or more years, which affects when your priority date is established.
Check the prevailing wage before your employer files the LCA
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current Level I through Level IV wage for your occupation and metro area before the Labor Condition Application is submitted.
Green Card Personal Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Personal Assistant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes, depending on how the position is structured. EB-3 applies when the role requires at least two years of training or a bachelor's degree in a related field. EB-2 applies when the employer can demonstrate the position requires an advanced degree and the candidate holds one. Most Personal Assistant sponsorships process under EB-3, which covers skilled workers and professionals.
How does green card sponsorship for a Personal Assistant differ from H-1B sponsorship?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status with a fixed expiration. Unlike H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery, and EB-3 doesn't face the same registration cap concerns for most countries. The trade-off is timeline: the PERM process typically takes one to three years before an I-140 is approved, compared to H-1B cap filings that resolve within months.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for Personal Assistant roles?
Your employer files a PERM application with DOL proving that no qualified U.S. worker was available for the role at the time of recruitment. This requires running specific job advertisements, documenting the results, and meeting the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. The PERM audit rate can be higher when the job duties are broad, so a precise job description matters.
How can I find Personal Assistant jobs where green card sponsorship is a real commitment, not just a checkbox?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters roles by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity, so you can identify hiring managers who have completed the PERM and I-140 process before rather than employers who list sponsorship as a possibility they've never actually pursued.
Does my degree field need to match the Personal Assistant role for PERM eligibility?
DOL and USCIS expect a logical connection between your degree and the job duties listed on the PERM application. A degree in business administration, communications, or office management typically satisfies this for Personal Assistant roles. A degree in an unrelated technical field can still qualify if your employer documents how your coursework applies directly to the duties required.
