Match your degree to the role
PERM requires your credentials to align with the employer's stated minimum requirements. A degree in business administration, construction management, or a related field strengthens your EB-3 case far more than a general qualification with unrelated coursework.
Research prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and role level. Use the OFLC Wage Search before any offer discussion so you know which wage level applies and can flag mismatches early.
Target employers with active PERM history
Not every company that posts Project Administrator openings has filed PERM applications before. Use Migrate Mate to filter by employers with employment-based green card sponsorship history, so you spend time only on companies already set up for the process.
Clarify specialty occupation framing for EB-2
EB-2 requires the role to normally demand an advanced degree. Project Administrator positions vary widely, so ask whether the employer defines the role as requiring an MBA or equivalent. Without that framing in the job requirements, EB-3 is the realistic path.
Request PERM timeline disclosure upfront
PERM labor certification alone currently takes several months at DOL, followed by I-140 adjudication at USCIS. Ask hiring managers before an offer whether they have in-house immigration counsel and whether they've completed PERM filings for similar roles.
Separate project management certifications strategically
Certifications like PMP are not substitutes for degree requirements in a PERM petition, but they can support your case for a higher DOL wage level classification under O*NET, which determines your prevailing wage and your EB-2 versus EB-3 pathway.
Green Card Project Administrator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Administrator role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Project Administrator positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, construction management, or a related field. EB-2 is possible if the employer defines the position as normally requiring an advanced degree and can document that requirement in the PERM application. The classification depends on how the employer frames the job duties and minimum requirements, not just the title.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent residency, not a temporary work authorization. Unlike H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery for EB-3 petitions, and most nationalities outside India and China face no significant priority date backlog at the EB-3 level. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification, I-140, and adjustment of status or consular processing together typically take two to four years, compared to H-1B's faster but temporary grant.
What does the PERM process look like specifically for Project Administrator roles?
Your employer files ETA Form 9089 with DOL after completing a supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. For Project Administrator positions, the employer must define a specific degree requirement tied to the role, not just a preference. DOL reviews whether the wage offered meets the prevailing wage level pulled from the OFLC Wage Search for your occupation and location. USCIS then adjudicates the I-140 immigrant petition once PERM is certified.
How do I find Project Administrator jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Project Administrator openings by employers with documented EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. Many employers post roles without specifying their willingness to sponsor permanent residency, so filtering by sponsorship track record saves significant time. Prioritize employers in construction, engineering, healthcare administration, and large enterprise environments, where PERM filings for administrative roles are more common.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Once your I-140 is approved and you've been in adjustment-of-status proceedings for 180 days or more, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar occupation without losing your priority date. For Project Administrator roles, USCIS looks at whether the new position involves comparable duties and the same broad occupational category. Changing employers before I-140 approval generally requires restarting the PERM process from the beginning.
