INTRODUCTION
The big picture: Axios is a media company dedicated to delivering trustworthy, award-winning news in an audience-first format. We are building a new category of local revenue generation and are hiring Local Market Builders to help scale Axios Local across key markets. This is not a traditional Account Executive role. This is a foundational, in-market revenue leader responsible for building Axios’ local advertising business from the ground up.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Why it matters: The Local Market Builder is the face of Axios in their city or region — responsible for developing deep relationships with local business leaders and converting those relationships into long-term advertising partnerships. This role is critical to unlocking hyperlocal revenue and proving a scalable model for Axios Local expansion.
Go deeper: Local Market Builders are highly entrepreneurial sellers focused on building a book of business through their existing network and local market presence. In this role, you will:
- Build and own a book of business from day one, leveraging existing relationships with local decision-makers
- Prospect, pitch, and close new local advertisers (restaurants, healthcare systems, law firms, real estate, financial services, dealerships, and more)
- Develop repeatable revenue streams through renewals and long-term partnerships
- Serve as the Axios brand ambassador in-market, attending events, building community presence, and collaborating with editorial teams
- Create and manage a high-volume pipeline of deals (typical deal size: $5K–$15K)
- Operate with a founder mindset — owning outcomes, testing approaches, and building momentum in-market
Yes, but: This is not a traditional AE role with inbound leads or established accounts.
- No house accounts or inherited book — you are expected to bring and build your own
- Heavy reliance on your existing network to accelerate early revenue
- In-market presence is essential — this is a relationship-driven role
- Higher deal volume, shorter cycles, and community-based selling
- Success is driven by reputation, trust, and consistency, not just pipeline coverage
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Worthy of your time: Ideal candidates will embody a collaborative spirit, revenue mindset, and passion for the Axios mission. This position requires the following:
- 5–8+ years in sales, digital media, advertising, or related field
- Be deeply connected in your market and know how to turn relationships into revenue.
- Proven ability to build and monetize a book of business
- Demonstrated success in closing new business and generating revenue from personal network
- Strong relationships with local advertisers, agencies, or business leaders in your market
Core Traits
- Entrepreneurial and self-starting — comfortable building from zero
- Highly networked in your local market
- Strong hunter mentality with a bias toward action
- Comfortable with ambiguity and longer ramp periods
- Excellent communicator and relationship builder
- Deep curiosity about local businesses and community dynamics
What Success Looks Like
- Rapid activation of your existing network into revenue-generating clients
- Consistent pipeline of new local advertisers
- Strong renewal rates and repeat business
- Established presence as a trusted partner in your market
This role is designed for highly motivated, network-driven sellers who want significant upside tied to performance.

Align your degree to the LCA occupation code
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation by matching your degree field to the SOC code on the LCA. Pull the O*NET profile for Advertising Analysts to confirm which degree fields support the filing before you apply.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Search Migrate Mate by occupation code to surface employers who have filed LCAs for Advertising Analyst roles. Filing history signals a built-in sponsorship workflow, which reduces timeline risk during offer negotiations.
Benchmark your offered salary against prevailing wage levels
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level. Run your metro area and SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to confirm the salary clears Level I or II.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before signing an offer
Advertising agencies and media companies aren't always E-Verify enrolled, unlike tech firms. Confirm enrollment status during the offer stage because your employer must complete I-9 verification through E-Verify to maintain compliant H-1B employment.
Request premium processing if your OPT end date is close
USCIS offers premium processing for I-129 petitions, returning a decision in 15 business days. If your OPT expires within three months of your anticipated start date, ask your employer's counsel to elect premium processing at filing.
Document campaign performance metrics as specialty occupation evidence
RFEs for Advertising Analyst H-1B petitions often challenge specialty occupation status. Compile work samples showing statistical modeling, attribution analysis, or programmatic optimization to demonstrate the role requires a specific degree, not general marketing experience.
H-1B Visa Advertising Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Advertising Analyst role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as marketing, statistics, data analytics, or economics. Roles focused on campaign performance modeling, audience segmentation, or media attribution analysis have stronger specialty occupation cases than general coordinator or account support positions. USCIS evaluates the actual job duties, not just the title.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Advertising Analysts?
Large holding companies with analytics divisions, programmatic advertising platforms, and major consumer brands with in-house media teams file LCAs for Advertising Analyst roles most frequently. Boutique creative agencies tend to sponsor less often because they lack dedicated immigration counsel. You can filter for employers with verified LCA filing history for this occupation on Migrate Mate.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer loses a major client and eliminates my role?
If your employer terminates your H-1B employment, USCIS provides a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period expires. Advertising firms with project-based revenue can be volatile, so understanding this window matters before accepting an offer.
Can I work on a client's project at a different location than what's listed on my LCA?
Advertising Analysts who travel to client sites or work in satellite offices not covered by the certified LCA may trigger a posting and wage compliance obligation. Your employer must file an amended LCA if your primary worksite changes to a new metropolitan statistical area. Remote work arrangements added after certification also require review to confirm LCA coverage.
How does the H-1B annual cap affect my job search timeline as an Advertising Analyst?
Most Advertising Analyst roles are cap-subject, meaning your employer must enter the USCIS lottery in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT with a cap-gap, you can continue working after your OPT expires provided your employer filed the I-129 before your EAD end date. Plan your job search to have an offer secured before the March registration window.
