Frame your degree for specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to align directly with the Alliances Manager role. A marketing, international business, or strategic management degree strengthens your petition. A general business degree may trigger a Request for Evidence if the employer's job description isn't tightly written.
Target companies with cap-exempt pathways
Universities, nonprofits, and government research organizations are H-1B cap-exempt, meaning alliances roles there can be filed any time of year. If you can't clear the April lottery, these employers let you start without waiting for October 1.
Check prevailing wage before your offer negotiation
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your metro area so you know what wage floor the LCA must certify before you sign.
Search LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Filter employers on Migrate Mate by LCA filing history for business development and alliances roles. Companies with recent H-1B certifications in your SOC code have cleared the DOL process before, which reduces friction when they file for you.
Get your offer letter before the March registration window
USCIS H-1B registration opens in March and closes within days. Your employer must register you before the lottery runs. Alliances roles often move through long interview cycles, so start targeting employers in Q4 to allow time for offer, LCA prep, and registration.
Clarify who pays the filing fees upfront
H-1B petition costs include the I-129 base fee, an ACWIA training fee, and the asylum program fee for larger employers. Some employers pass attorney fees to workers. Confirm the fee split in writing before accepting so there are no surprises at filing.
H-1B Visa Alliances Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Alliances Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer's job description specifies a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration, marketing, or strategic management. Generic titles like 'business development manager' can face scrutiny, so the offer letter and job description should connect the degree requirement explicitly to the role's duties.
Which industries most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Alliances Manager roles?
Technology, enterprise software, cybersecurity, and cloud services companies file the highest volume of H-1B LCAs for alliances and partnership roles. Consulting firms and hardware manufacturers also sponsor regularly. You can search employers with verified H-1B filing history for this role type on Migrate Mate to narrow your target list.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my timeline for an Alliances Manager job?
USCIS runs the H-1B lottery in March for an October 1 start date. If selected, your employer files the full petition by late April. If not selected, you'd need to wait for the next cycle, transfer from another visa status, or find a cap-exempt employer. Most alliances roles at tech companies are cap-subject, so planning around the April window is standard.
Can my H-1B be transferred if I change employers in an Alliances Manager role?
Yes. Under portability rules, you can start working for a new employer once they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for USCIS approval. Your new employer files an I-129 and a fresh LCA. Because alliances roles are common at competitor companies, lateral moves within the same industry are straightforward from a petition standpoint.
What wage level should I expect my employer to certify on the LCA for this role?
DOL assigns one of four wage levels based on experience, supervision, and complexity. Entry-level alliances roles typically certify at Level I or II, while senior or director-level positions certify at Level III or IV. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the prevailing wage for your specific metro area and SOC code before your offer negotiation.
