Align your degree to the SOC code
Partnerships roles typically file under business operations SOC codes. Confirm your degree field maps directly to that classification before applying. A mismatch between your transcript and the SOC code is a common RFE trigger USCIS flags at adjudication.
Check employer LCA history on Migrate Mate
Search Partnerships Associate LCA filings by employer on Migrate Mate to confirm which companies have a documented H-1B sponsorship track record for this role, not just general engineering or tech positions.
Verify prevailing wage before salary negotiation
Look up the Level I through Level IV wage range for your target SOC code and metro area using the OFLC Wage Search. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the applicable level, and the LCA locks that wage in before USCIS reviews the I-129.
Target companies enrolled in E-Verify
Employers must be E-Verify participants to hire you on H-1B. For Partnerships roles at startups or early-stage companies, confirm E-Verify enrollment status before accepting an offer, since smaller firms sometimes haven't yet completed registration.
Document cross-functional scope in your offer letter
Partnerships roles that blend sales, business development, and account management can face specialty occupation challenges at USCIS. Push your employer to define the role's duties using degree-specific language that ties directly to your field of study in the offer letter and support documents.
Use O*NET to anchor your specialty occupation argument
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your target SOC code and identify the education and knowledge requirements listed. This data is directly usable in the I-129 support letter to demonstrate that the position meets the specialty occupation standard.
H-1B Visa Partnerships Associate: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Partnerships Associate roles qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
They can, but the classification requires more documentation than engineering roles. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Partnerships roles that blend relationship management with technical product knowledge, data analysis, or finance tend to qualify more cleanly than generalist business development titles. Your employer's job description needs to tie duties directly to a degree-requiring discipline.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Partnerships Associate jobs?
Technology platforms, SaaS companies, fintech firms, and marketplace businesses are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Partnerships roles. These employers typically have in-house immigration counsel and recurring LCA filings. You can browse H-1B-sponsored Partnerships Associate openings directly on Migrate Mate, filtered by employers with verified LCA filing history for this role type.
What happens to my H-1B status if I move from an individual contributor partnerships role to a team lead position?
A material change in job duties or the SOC code used for your LCA requires your employer to file an amended H-1B petition before the change takes effect. If the new role shifts from a business operations SOC code to a management classification, the prevailing wage requirement and specialty occupation analysis both need to be re-run. Skipping the amended petition is a status violation.
Can I negotiate my salary if the LCA prevailing wage locks in a minimum?
Yes, the LCA sets a floor, not a ceiling. Your employer files the LCA at the prevailing wage level that matches your experience and location, and you can negotiate above that amount. What you can't do is accept a final offer below the certified LCA wage without triggering a DOL compliance issue for the employer.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect my job search timeline for Partnerships Associate roles?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions require registration in March for an October 1 start date, which means most employers won't extend offers for cap-subject candidates until Q1 of the target year. If you're on OPT with cap-gap protection, your authorized period extends through September 30, giving you continuous work authorization while the petition is pending at USCIS.
