Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Assembly Technician
Verify your degree matches the role
H-1B eligibility for Assembly Technician roles hinges on specialty occupation status. Pull the O*NET profile for your target job title and confirm the listed education requirement is a specific technical degree, not a general bachelor's or equivalent experience.
Target manufacturers enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment is required for STEM OPT employers and signals visa-sponsorship readiness in manufacturing. Filter your employer search to E-Verify participants in aerospace, medical device, and industrial automation sectors where H-1B filings for technician roles are most common.
Check prevailing wage before applying
Your offered wage must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific occupation and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search using the Assembly Technician SOC code before your first interview so you can flag underpaying offers before they reach the LCA stage.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Find Assembly Technician roles at employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history using Migrate Mate. Filter by occupation code to see which manufacturers have sponsored this specific role, not just any H-1B position, before you apply.
Ask about cap-exempt employer status early
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and affiliated government entities are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition skips the lottery entirely. Assembly Technician roles at research labs or university engineering departments are a legitimate path that most candidates overlook.
Confirm filing timeline before accepting an offer
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed for an October 1 start date, with USCIS registration opening each March. If you receive an offer outside that window, negotiate a start date that aligns with the next fiscal year or ask whether the employer will use premium processing.

Find Assembly Technician JobsAssembly Technician H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Assembly Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires that the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, such as mechanical engineering or manufacturing technology. A generic Assembly Technician posting that lists a degree as preferred rather than required may not qualify. Roles in aerospace, medical devices, or advanced electronics are more likely to meet the threshold because the complexity of the work supports a specific degree requirement.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Assembly Technician roles?
Aerospace and defense manufacturers, medical device companies, semiconductor fabricators, and industrial robotics firms are the most active H-1B sponsors for Assembly Technician positions. These sectors hire for roles that require precision, specialized technical training, and often a degree in engineering or a related discipline. You can identify specific employers with LCA filing history for this occupation by searching on Migrate Mate, filtered by SOC code.
Can I switch Assembly Technician employers while on an H-1B?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as the new petition is filed, provided your original H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Your new employer must file a new I-129 petition with USCIS. You don't need to wait for approval before starting, but the new petition must be pending.
What documents does my employer need to file an H-1B for an Assembly Technician position?
Your employer needs a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before filing the I-129 petition with USCIS. Supporting documents typically include a job description that demonstrates specialty occupation requirements, your academic credentials or degree equivalency evaluation, and evidence that the offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for the role and location. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization is standard.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off from an Assembly Technician role?
USCIS provides a 60-day grace period after involuntary termination, during which you remain in valid H-1B status and can pursue a new employer sponsorship or change of status. If a new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period ends, you can continue working under portability rules. Acting within the first 30 days gives you more buffer to handle any filing delays.
