H-1B Visa Audit Specialist Jobs
Audit Specialist roles qualify as H-1B visa specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Employers in public accounting, financial services, and corporate compliance regularly sponsor H-1B petitions for this role, and the annual 85,000-cap lottery applies unless your employer is a university or nonprofit research institution.

Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree directly relates to audit work. A degree in accounting, finance, or business with an accounting concentration strengthens your case. A general business degree without audit coursework may trigger a Request for Evidence.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated entities can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery exposure. Internal audit and compliance roles at these organizations qualify, and you avoid the March registration window entirely.
Search H-1B sponsors by occupation on Migrate Mate
Filter by audit-related SOC codes on Migrate Mate to see which employers have filed LCAs for Audit Specialist roles. This shows actual filing behavior, not just posted job descriptions, so you target employers who already know the process.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your work location and SOC code. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check Level I through Level IV thresholds before negotiating, since the employer's LCA locks in the wage level.
Ask whether your employer will file before the lottery opens
H-1B registration opens in early March, and USCIS selects registrations by late March. If your start date is October 1, your employer must register you in that window. Confirm their internal timeline and whether they use premium processing.
Document your audit experience with client-specific evidence
If USCIS issues an RFE on specialty occupation, engagement letters, audit reports you authored, and CPA supervision records all strengthen the response. Organize these before your employer files, not after the petition is challenged.
H-1B Visa Audit Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Audit Specialist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS treats audit roles as specialty occupations when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a directly related field. Roles focused on financial statement audits, internal controls, or regulatory compliance consistently meet the standard. If your job description lists a preferred degree rather than a required one, your employer should correct it before filing to avoid an RFE.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Audit Specialist positions?
Public accounting firms, large financial institutions, healthcare systems, and multinational corporations with internal audit departments are the most active sponsors for this role. You can search by occupation code on Migrate Mate to see which employers have filed Labor Condition Applications for audit roles in your target location, giving you a concrete list of sponsors with verified filing history.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new audit employer without losing my status?
Yes, H-1B portability lets you start working for a new employer once they file a non-frivolous H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval. Your prior H-1B approval must be valid and you must not have violated your status. The new employer files a new I-129 and LCA covering your audit role at the new organization before or on your start date.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect H-1B audit roles?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location before USCIS will approve your petition. Audit Specialist wages are benchmarked by experience level, from Level I for entry roles to Level IV for senior positions. Your employer determines the appropriate level when filing the LCA, and you can verify the applicable threshold using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer letter is finalized.
What happens to my H-1B if my audit employer is acquired or merges?
If the acquiring entity assumes your employment relationship, job duties, and compensation without material change, your H-1B typically remains valid under successor-in-interest rules. Your employer should notify USCIS by filing an amended petition if your role, title, or work location changes materially. Confirm with your employer's immigration counsel immediately after any acquisition closes, since an unamended petition covering changed conditions creates a compliance risk.
