Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Business Operations Manager
Align your degree to the role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to Business Operations Manager duties. A degree in industrial engineering or supply chain management strengthens your case more than a general business degree paired with unrelated coursework.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating
Look up the prevailing wage for Business Operations Manager in your target metro before your offer call. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that level, so knowing the floor prevents offers that USCIS will flag.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Operations Manager roles by employers who have filed LCAs for this occupation code. That filing history signals the employer already understands the H-1B process and won't stall at the sponsorship stage.
Prioritize cap-exempt employer types
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations are cap-exempt, meaning they can sponsor you outside the annual lottery. If you're not selected in the H-1B cap, these employers can file year-round.
Clarify job duties match the SOC code
Business Operations Manager maps to a specific Standard Occupational Classification code that DOL uses to set wage levels. If your actual duties span multiple functions, confirm with your employer that the I-129 petition accurately reflects your day-to-day responsibilities.
Request employer confirmation on timing before accepting
Ask whether the employer will file for the October 1 start date or pay for premium processing. A 60-day grace period after your current status ends gives limited buffer if filing is delayed after you resign from a prior role.
H-1B Visa Business Operations Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Operations Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, as long as the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business administration, operations management, or industrial engineering. USCIS evaluates the job duties listed in the petition, not just the title. Roles where any unrelated degree is acceptable may face an RFE, so the job description needs to tie degree requirements directly to the work performed.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most for this role?
Technology, healthcare systems, logistics and supply chain, financial services, and large retail operations are the most active H-1B sponsors for Business Operations Manager positions. These industries typically have in-house HR and immigration counsel familiar with the LCA and I-129 process. You can browse current openings filtered by employer filing history on Migrate Mate to identify which companies are actively sponsoring this role right now.
Can I switch employers while on H-1B as a Business Operations Manager?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed, not waiting for approval, provided your original H-1B was approved and you've maintained lawful status. The new employer must file a new LCA and I-129 before your first day. Confirm the new petition is filed before you resign to stay covered under portability.
What does the employer have to prove to USCIS to sponsor me?
The employer must demonstrate that the Business Operations Manager position qualifies as a specialty occupation, that you hold the required degree, and that they will pay at least the prevailing wage for your location and job level as certified in the LCA. USCIS may issue an RFE if the petition doesn't clearly link your specific degree field to the listed job duties, so detailed job descriptions reduce that risk.
How do I verify a company's H-1B sponsorship track record for operations roles?
DOL's LCA disclosure data shows which employers have filed Labor Condition Applications by occupation code, location, and wage level. Searching this data for Business Operations Manager filings tells you which employers have sponsored the role before and at what wage. Migrate Mate surfaces this DOL data by employer, so you can see sponsorship history without downloading raw disclosure files from OFLC directly.
