Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Cardiology Nurse Practitioner
Verify your NP credentials meet specialty occupation
USCIS requires a directly related degree for specialty occupation status. Your Master of Science in Nursing plus ANCC or AANP board certification in cardiology strengthens the degree-to-role connection and reduces the risk of an RFE on specialty occupation grounds.
Target health systems with cap-exempt status
Universities, nonprofit research hospitals, and affiliated medical centers can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap year-round. Cardiology NP roles at these institutions don't depend on March lottery registration, which significantly shortens your hiring timeline.
Search LCA filings for cardiology NP sponsors
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filings for Nurse Practitioner roles. This surfaces health systems and cardiology practices with active H-1B sponsorship history, so you apply to employers already familiar with the process.
Confirm state NP scope of practice before accepting offers
Full-practice authority varies by state and directly affects your H-1B job duties description. If your offer is in a restricted-practice state requiring physician supervision, your employer must accurately reflect those limitations in the LCA and I-129 petition to avoid inconsistencies during adjudication.
Request premium processing once your I-129 is filed
Cardiology departments often have urgent clinical staffing needs. Premium processing upgrades USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. Confirm with your employer's HR or immigration counsel that the upgrade fee is included in the sponsorship package before you sign the offer.
Benchmark your offered wage against prevailing wage levels
Your employer's LCA must certify wages at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation code and work location. Run your role's SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search before your offer negotiation to confirm the wage level assigned matches your experience.
H-1B Visa Cardiology Nurse Practitioner: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Cardiology NP positions meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard because they require at minimum a master's degree in nursing with a specific clinical focus. USCIS recognizes advanced practice nursing roles as specialty occupations when the employer's job requirements and the candidate's degree and board certification align directly with the cardiology specialty.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Cardiology Nurse Practitioners?
Academic medical centers, large nonprofit health systems, and cardiology group practices are the most active sponsors. University-affiliated hospitals are particularly valuable because they often hold cap-exempt status, allowing H-1B petitions to be filed at any time without waiting for the annual March lottery window. You can browse employers with verified filing history on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect hiring timelines for this role?
Cap-subject employers must register during the March lottery window for an October 1 start date, creating a gap of six or more months between offer and employment. Cap-exempt employers, including many academic hospitals and nonprofit research centers, can file petitions year-round, which is why targeting those institutions often results in faster onboarding for cardiology NP candidates.
What occupation code applies to Cardiology Nurse Practitioners on an H-1B petition?
Most Cardiology NP petitions are filed under SOC code 29-1171 (Nurse Practitioners). Your employer's immigration counsel will confirm the exact code based on your specific job duties. The O*NET profile for this occupation outlines the knowledge, skills, and degree requirements that support the specialty occupation determination USCIS requires.
Can a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner switch employers while on H-1B status?
Yes, through H-1B portability under AC21. If you've had your H-1B approved and have been in valid status, you can begin working for a new sponsoring employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval. The new employer must file before your current authorization expires, and the role must remain in a specialty occupation.
