Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Hospice Director
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
H-1B approval depends on your degree directly relating to hospice administration or clinical management. A general business degree without healthcare coursework can trigger an RFE, so pull your transcripts and map your coursework to the role before applying.
Search LCA filings for hospice employers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Applications by SOC code 11-9111 (Medical and Health Services Managers). Employers with recent certified LCAs for that code have already navigated the DOL filing process for this role type.
Target hospital systems over standalone agencies
Hospital-owned hospice programs sit inside larger health systems with established HR immigration teams, making H-1B sponsorship far more common than at independent hospice agencies, which often lack the infrastructure to file.
Confirm prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Use Migrate Mate to check what LCA wage levels employers have filed for Hospice Director roles in your target metro. Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage, and knowing the local Level II or Level III threshold prevents offer-stage surprises.
Clarify supervisory scope in your job description
USCIS scrutinizes Hospice Director petitions where the duties skew toward hands-on patient care rather than administrative oversight. Work with your employer to ensure the job description emphasizes staff supervision, budget authority, and program compliance over direct clinical tasks.
Ask about cap-exempt filing status early
Hospice programs affiliated with nonprofit hospitals or academic medical centers may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers, bypassing the annual lottery entirely. Confirm the organization's IRS status and any affiliated research or teaching activities before your first interview.

Find Hospice Director JobsHospice Director H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Hospice Director role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as healthcare administration, nursing, or social work. USCIS evaluates both the job description and your credentials, so the position must consistently require that degree across comparable organizations, not just prefer it.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Hospice Director positions?
Hospital-owned hospice programs and large regional hospice networks are the most active H-1B sponsors for this role. You can browse verified H-1B sponsoring employers with Hospice Director or Medical and Health Services Manager LCA filings on Migrate Mate, filtered by location and filing history.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my chances as a Hospice Director candidate?
If your prospective employer is a for-profit organization without academic or nonprofit affiliations, your petition enters the annual H-1B cap lottery each April. Cap-exempt employers, such as those affiliated with nonprofit hospitals or teaching institutions, can file year-round without a lottery slot, which is a material advantage worth clarifying before accepting an offer.
What happens to my H-1B status if my hospice employer closes or loses Medicare certification?
Losing your position triggers a 60-day grace period during which you can transfer your H-1B to a new sponsoring employer through an H-1B portability filing. The new employer must file a new I-129 petition before your grace period expires. Starting your job search immediately after notice is essential to preserve status.
Can a Hospice Director petition be denied due to supervisory versus clinical duties?
Yes. USCIS has issued RFEs on Hospice Director petitions where duties appeared primarily clinical rather than managerial. To strengthen the petition, the job description should emphasize staff oversight, regulatory compliance, budget management, and program development. O*NET's occupational profile for Medical and Health Services Managers supports the specialty occupation classification when referenced in the petition.
