H-1B Visa Patient Care RN Jobs
Patient Care RN roles qualify as H-1B visa specialty occupations because they require a BSN or higher and an active state nursing license. Large health systems, academic medical centers, and hospital networks routinely sponsor H-1B petitions for bedside nurses, though cap-subject slots fill during each annual lottery cycle.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Patient Care RN
Verify your NCLEX and state licensure first
Your H-1B petition can't move forward without an active state RN license. If you passed NCLEX abroad, confirm your credentials are endorsed in the state where the employer operates before the LCA filing begins.
Target cap-exempt hospital employers directly
Nonprofit hospitals affiliated with a university medical center qualify as cap-exempt H-1B sponsors. Roles there bypass the annual lottery entirely, giving you a reliable path that doesn't depend on registration selection in April.
Search verified LCA filers on Migrate Mate
Filter Patient Care RN openings by employers with active H-1B LCA filings on Migrate Mate. This surfaces hospitals that have already committed to sponsoring the role, not just those open to discussing it later.
Ask HR about premium processing before signing
Standard H-1B adjudication can run several months. Many hospital systems will pay for premium processing to get a 15-business-day decision from USCIS, which matters when you're coordinating a start date with a unit manager.
Understand the prevailing wage tier for your unit
Your employer files an LCA certifying your wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and county. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I through Level IV range for Registered Nurses in your target metro before negotiating.
Prepare a CGFNS or equivalency report early
If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., many state boards and employers require a CGFNS credential evaluation before they'll process your application. Ordering this early prevents it from becoming the bottleneck that delays your petition timeline.
H-1B Visa Patient Care RN: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Patient Care RN role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS recognizes registered nursing as a specialty occupation when the position requires a BSN or higher in a specific nursing field. Roles that accept an ADN plus experience can face RFEs, so employers typically structure the job description to require a bachelor's degree to strengthen the petition.
How do I find hospitals that actually sponsor H-1B visas for nurses?
Search for Patient Care RN openings on Migrate Mate, which filters results by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. Large academic medical centers, VA-affiliated systems, and nonprofit teaching hospitals are the most consistent sponsors. Staffing agencies rarely sponsor H-1B petitions directly for nursing roles.
Does my nursing license need to be active before my employer files the H-1B?
Yes. Your employer's labor attorney needs an active, unrestricted state RN license to complete the LCA and I-129 filing. If your license is pending endorsement or under review by the state board, the petition timeline will stall until licensure is confirmed in writing.
What happens to my H-1B status if I transfer to a different unit or hospital?
Moving to a different employer requires a new H-1B petition before you start. Transferring units within the same hospital system generally doesn't require a new petition if the SOC code, wage level, and work location stay the same, but your employer should amend the petition if any material terms change.
Can a nurse staffing agency sponsor my H-1B for a hospital placement?
Staffing agencies can legally sponsor H-1B nurses, but it's uncommon. The agency must be the employer of record, pay prevailing wage, and file the LCA under their FEIN. Most agencies prefer placing nurses on TN visa or EAD status instead. Direct hospital sponsorship is a more stable path for long-term H-1B holders.
