Verify your credential equivalency before applying
If you earned your nursing or healthcare degree outside the U.S., get it evaluated by a NACES-recognized credential evaluation service. USCIS requires the degree to be equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's in a directly related field before approving an H-1B petition for a Clinical Coordinator role.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Coordinator roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation code. Employers with consistent LCA history are far more likely to have an established H-1B sponsorship process than those filing for the first time.
Distinguish coordinator roles from nursing positions
Clinical Coordinator positions that primarily require bedside nursing duties are harder to support under H-1B's specialty occupation standard. Target postings that emphasize care coordination, protocol management, or program oversight, since those roles align more clearly with a degree requirement in healthcare administration or clinical sciences.
Ask about the LCA filing timeline at offer stage
The DOL must certify the Labor Condition Application before your employer can file the I-129 petition with USCIS. Confirm your prospective employer knows this sequence and has legal counsel ready, since delays in LCA certification push back your entire H-1B start date.
Check prevailing wage requirements for your metro area
Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating an offer. Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for Clinical Coordinators in that geographic area, and your offer letter salary must meet or exceed that threshold for the LCA to be certified.
Prepare for cap-subject lottery timing early
Most Clinical Coordinator roles at hospitals and outpatient clinics are cap-subject, meaning your employer must register you in the H-1B lottery between March 1 and March 18 for an October 1 start date. Align your job search and offer timeline so you're hired before the registration window closes.

Find Clinical Coordinator JobsClinical Coordinator H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
A Clinical Coordinator position qualifies as a specialty occupation when the employer can demonstrate the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, health sciences, or a directly related field. Roles focused on care coordination, protocol oversight, or clinical program management typically meet this standard. Positions where the core duties are general administrative work or basic patient assistance face higher USCIS scrutiny and may receive a Request for Evidence.
Which types of employers commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Coordinators?
Hospital systems, academic medical centers, outpatient specialty clinics, and clinical research organizations are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Clinical Coordinator roles. Research-affiliated institutions and larger health networks tend to have dedicated HR and legal infrastructure for H-1B filings. You can browse Clinical Coordinator roles filtered by verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which organizations have actively filed for this occupation.
Can a Clinical Coordinator role qualify for cap-exempt H-1B status?
Yes, if the employer qualifies as a cap-exempt institution. Hospitals or clinics affiliated with a university, nonprofit research organizations, and government research facilities often meet the cap-exempt criteria under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Cap-exempt petitions can be filed at any time of year with no lottery, which is a significant advantage for clinical roles with immediate hiring needs. Confirm your employer's cap-exempt status with their legal counsel before assuming this applies.
How does the O*NET classification affect H-1B approval for Clinical Coordinators?
USCIS uses the O*NET occupation profile and job zone classification as one reference point when evaluating whether a Clinical Coordinator position meets the specialty occupation standard. The O*NET profile for Medical and Health Services Managers, which many coordinator roles map to, indicates a typical education requirement of a bachelor's degree or higher. A strong job description that maps your duties to O*NET's defined tasks for that occupation code strengthens the employer's H-1B petition.
What documentation should I gather to support my employer's H-1B petition for a Clinical Coordinator role?
You'll need official transcripts and a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., a detailed resume that maps your clinical experience to the specific coordinator duties in the job description, and any professional licenses such as an RN or case management certification relevant to the role. Your employer's attorney will also need the job description to demonstrate specialty occupation, so reviewing it carefully before signing your offer letter helps ensure the H-1B petition is built on an accurate foundation.
