H-1B Visa LVT Jobs
Licensed Veterinary Technicians with H-1B sponsorship face a specific challenge: the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning your employer needs to demonstrate the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Veterinary technology programs and AVMA-accredited degrees strengthen that case considerably.

Verify your credential meets specialty occupation
USCIS evaluates LVT roles case by case. An AVMA-accredited associate degree alone may not satisfy the bachelor's-level requirement. Document how your employer's position description specifies a four-year veterinary science or biological sciences degree to strengthen the petition.
Use O*NET to frame your job duties
Pull the LVT occupation profile from O*NET and match your actual job duties to the listed tasks and knowledge requirements. Employers use this framing in the I-129 specialty occupation argument, so misalignment between your offer letter and O*NET weakens the filing.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Veterinary schools, AVMA-affiliated research institutions, and nonprofit animal hospitals may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers. Filing outside the annual lottery removes the April registration deadline and lets you start sooner. Ask hiring managers directly whether the organization has cap-exempt status.
Search H-1B LVT employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by LCA filing history to find clinics and veterinary groups that have sponsored LVT roles before. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can confirm an employer has filed for this specific occupation, not just broad healthcare categories.
Negotiate who covers the I-129 filing fee
USCIS regulations prohibit employers from deducting the I-129 filing fee from your wages, but they don't require employers to pay it voluntarily. Raise fee responsibility during the offer stage, before signing, so there's no confusion about who covers USCIS petition costs.
Check the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for LVT roles in your metro area. Look up the applicable Level I through IV wage on OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your salary so you know the floor the employer is already required to meet.

Find LVT JobsLVT H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an LVT role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires specialty occupation roles to normally demand at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. LVT positions that specify a veterinary technology or biological sciences bachelor's degree in the job requirements are stronger candidates than roles that list an associate degree as sufficient. The employer's job description and the actual duties both factor into the adjudication.
How do I find veterinary employers who have sponsored H-1B visas before?
Migrate Mate lets you filter employers by LCA filing history, so you can see which veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, and research institutions have filed Labor Condition Applications for LVT or similar roles. This is more reliable than asking recruiters, since DOL disclosure data reflects actual filing activity rather than stated intentions.
Can a veterinary clinic sponsor an H-1B if it has never done so before?
Yes. Any U.S. employer can file an H-1B petition for the first time, but first-time sponsors face a steeper administrative lift. They need to register with USCIS, obtain an Employer Identification Number, and file a certified LCA with DOL before submitting Form I-129. Smaller clinics sometimes rely on immigration counsel to navigate the process, which adds to their cost and timeline.
What happens to my H-1B status if I change veterinary employers?
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B transfer petition, provided your original petition has been approved and you're moving to a same or similar LVT role. You don't need to wait for the transfer to be fully approved to begin work, but the new employer must file before your current authorized period ends.
Does state veterinary technician licensure affect my H-1B petition?
State licensure requirements strengthen the specialty occupation argument because they signal the profession requires specialized knowledge. If your state requires LVTs to pass the VTNE and hold an active state license, include that documentation with the petition. USCIS has used licensure requirements as supporting evidence that a role meets the specialty occupation threshold, particularly for healthcare and clinical roles.
