Align your degree to SOC codes
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to safety management. Pull the O*NET profile for Health and Safety Managers to confirm which degree fields support a specialty occupation argument before you apply.
Target industries with mandatory compliance programs
Manufacturers, chemical processors, and healthcare systems file more H-1B LCAs for safety roles because OSHA compliance requires dedicated managers. Filtering by industry sector narrows your search to employers with real sponsorship history.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Health and Safety Manager roles by employers with confirmed LCA filing history, so you're only applying to companies that have already sponsored this specific job category.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your worksite location. Run the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 11-9199 before your offer conversation so you know the wage floor for your region.
Prepare for specialty occupation RFEs proactively
USCIS sometimes issues Requests for Evidence on safety roles if the job description sounds operational rather than analytical. Ask your employer to draft the H-1B job description emphasizing policy development, risk assessment, and regulatory interpretation.
Confirm employer E-Verify enrollment before accepting
H-1B sponsorship requires your employer to be registered with USCIS. Check that your prospective employer is enrolled in E-Verify before you reach the offer stage, since unenrolled employers cannot file your petition.

Find Health And Safety Manager JobsHealth And Safety Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Health and Safety Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the employer requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as occupational health, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or environmental science. Roles framed around compliance program management and regulatory interpretation are stronger candidates than positions described primarily as hands-on inspection work. USCIS looks at whether the degree requirement is standard for the position in the industry.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most consistently for safety managers?
Manufacturing, chemical processing, construction, and hospital systems sponsor H-1B petitions for Health and Safety Managers most frequently, driven by mandatory OSHA compliance obligations and the need for credentialed professionals managing site-wide programs. You can find employers with verified LCA filing history in this role category on Migrate Mate, filtered by industry and location.
What certifications strengthen an H-1B petition for a safety manager?
Credentials like the Certified Safety Professional designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or the Certified Industrial Hygienist credential demonstrate specialized competence beyond a generalist degree. Including these in your resume and in the employer's H-1B support letter reinforces the specialty occupation argument, particularly when your degree field is adjacent rather than directly matched to the posted role.
Can a Health and Safety Manager role support H-1B status if the employer has multiple worksites?
Yes, but the employer must file a separate LCA for each worksite where you'll work for more than 30 consecutive days if it's outside the area covered by your original LCA. USCIS and DOL treat multi-site roles with added scrutiny, so your employer's immigration counsel should account for all regular work locations when preparing the petition and Labor Condition Application.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement apply to safety manager positions?
DOL sets the prevailing wage for your position based on the SOC code, your worksite's geographic area, and one of four wage levels tied to experience and supervisory responsibility. Your employer's LCA must certify they'll pay at least that wage level. Use the OFLC Wage Search with the relevant SOC code to look up the applicable threshold for your specific location before entering salary discussions.
