H-1B Visa Clinical Medical Assistant Jobs
Clinical Medical Assistant roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a formally accredited credential and the employer can document specialty occupation status. Physician offices, urgent care networks, and hospital outpatient departments are the most active H-1B filers for this title. Wages must meet DOL prevailing wage levels before the employer can file.

Verify your credential meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires the role to demand at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential alone may not satisfy this. Check whether your employer's job description cites a clinical degree requirement, not just certification.
Target outpatient and multispecialty clinic employers
Hospital systems and multispecialty outpatient groups file H-1B petitions for clinical support roles more consistently than solo practices. Search Migrate Mate's employer profiles, filtered by LCA filing history, to identify which clinic networks have sponsored this exact job title.
Check the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and county. Run your job title through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer so you know what the floor is.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment during offer stage
Employers sponsoring H-1B workers must be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask your hiring contact directly during the offer process, not after signing. Unenrolled employers cannot legally proceed with an H-1B petition regardless of their intent.
Use O*NET to document your role's degree requirement
USCIS scrutinizes clinical assistant roles because the degree requirement isn't always obvious. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your specific title and have your employer reference it in the specialty occupation support letter to strengthen the petition.
File premium processing if your start date is tight
Standard H-1B adjudication runs three to six months. If your OPT or current status expires before a decision, USCIS premium processing upgrades adjudication to 15 business days. Ask your employer to include it in the filing budget before petitions are submitted.
H-1B Visa Clinical Medical Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Medical Assistant role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
It depends on how the employer structures the job description. USCIS requires the position to normally demand a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. If your employer lists a generic certification requirement rather than a clinical degree, the petition is at higher risk of a Request for Evidence. Roles tied to a specific degree in health sciences or medical assisting from an accredited four-year program are in a stronger position.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistants?
Multispecialty outpatient clinics, hospital-affiliated group practices, and federally qualified health centers file H-1B petitions for clinical support roles more regularly than independent physician offices. Solo practices rarely have the administrative infrastructure to manage an H-1B filing. Browse Migrate Mate to filter employers by LCA filing history for this specific job title so you can target your applications strategically.
Can my employer file an H-1B for me if I'm currently on OPT?
Yes, and timing matters. Your employer must submit the H-1B registration during USCIS's annual lottery window, typically in March. If selected, the petition is filed for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're a STEM OPT extension holder with a timely filed EAD renewal, cap-gap protections may bridge the gap. Confirm your exact OPT end date before the employer commits to a filing timeline.
What wage must my employer pay for an H-1B Clinical Medical Assistant role?
Your employer's Labor Condition Application must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job title, experience level, and work location. Prevailing wages differ by county, so a role in rural Ohio carries a different floor than one in San Francisco. You can verify the applicable wage tier using the OFLC Wage Search before you reach the offer negotiation stage.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for this role?
Three items carry the most weight: a job description that explicitly ties duties to a specific degree field, an employer support letter referencing the O*NET occupation profile for the title, and proof that the employer has paid similar roles at the required wage level. Your academic transcripts and any clinical credentialing certificates should be included as supporting evidence. A weak job description is the most common reason these petitions receive an RFE.
