Commerce is looking for an Enterprise Training Manager, Technical Content to join our Training team. Reporting to the Manager, Training, this role sits at the intersection of technical content ownership and enterprise training delivery. The ideal candidate will own and maintain Commerce product and developer learning content — ensuring accuracy and relevance with each platform release — while also supporting personalized training for merchants, agency partners, and internal teams.
What You’ll Do:
Content Ownership & Development:
- Serve as a key contributor to the creation, maintenance, and ongoing updates of Commerce product training and technical learning content, ensuring accuracy and relevance with each platform release.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Professional Services to translate platform changes into accurate, engaging, and up-to-date learning content across all course formats.
- Produce product and developer-focused video content — including scripting, narration, and screen recordings — covering new feature releases, commonly asked questions, and key platform capabilities to support the broader developer ecosystem.
- Continuously discover and implement new learning techniques and adult learning best practices to maximize engagement and instructional effectiveness.
- Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to accelerate content creation, improve efficiency, and enhance the learner experience.
Training Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Deliver customized virtual and in-person training for enterprise merchants, agency partners, and internal teams as needed.
- Conduct detailed scoping calls with merchants and partners to understand business objectives and functional requirements, and provide expert recommendations on personalized training needs.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Professional Services, Account Management, and Marketing.
- Work with external stakeholders, including client partners, project managers, developers, technical partners, and executives in enterprise organizations.
- Manage training action plans and coordinate scheduling and administration of learning sessions before, during, and after delivery.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Commerce platform features, the third-party ecosystem, and competitive differentiators.
Who You Are:
- 3–5 years of combined experience in the technology industry with a focus on technical writing, instructional design, product training, developer education, or similar roles.
- Working knowledge of GitHub and local development practices; able to run and modify a site locally using popular frameworks like Next.js or Nuxt.js.
- Experience with ecommerce tools and applications, including SaaS and open source storefronts, headless implementations, POS, PIM, OMS, ERP, and payment gateways.
- Solid technical foundation: comfortable with APIs and able to run API requests given API docs or a Postman library; familiar with front-end development tools and at ease with HTML/CSS/JS.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to explain complex technical topics clearly to audiences of all experience levels.
- Proactive, transparent communicator who is mindful of stakeholder needs across global, matrixed organizations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple content projects independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and rapidly changing environment.
- Comfortable learning new technologies quickly and asking for help from others; a natural collaborator and knowledge-sharer.

Map your degree to your role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Content Developer role. A communications or English degree maps cleanly, but a general business degree often triggers an RFE. Document how your coursework aligns with the specific job duties in the offer letter.
Verify prevailing wages using OFLC Wage Search
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation code and work location. Run your job title through OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer so you can flag any gap to your employer before the LCA is filed.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Not every company that posts Content Developer jobs has sponsored H-1B workers before. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified LCA filing history in content and instructional design roles, so you focus your search on sponsors with a real track record.
Clarify the SOC code your employer will use
Content Developer roles can be filed under multiple Standard Occupational Classification codes, including Technical Writers or Instructional Designers. The SOC code determines your prevailing wage level, so confirm with your employer which code they plan to use and cross-check it against O*NET before signing.
Request premium processing if your start date is firm
Standard H-1B processing takes several months. If you're transitioning from OPT or CPT with a hard end date, ask your employer to file under premium processing, which requires USCIS to respond within 15 business days, to avoid a gap in your work authorization.
Prepare a portfolio that demonstrates specialty occupation
For content roles, USCIS scrutinizes whether a bachelor's degree is genuinely required. Assemble a portfolio showing complex, degree-level work such as curriculum frameworks, technical documentation architecture, or content strategy deliverables that a generalist without specialized education couldn't produce.
H-1B Visa Content Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Content Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
A Content Developer role qualifies as a specialty occupation when the employer's job description requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as communications, instructional design, English, or a closely related discipline. If the posting lists a degree as preferred rather than required, or accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field, USCIS may issue an RFE challenging specialty occupation status. Tightening the degree requirement language in the offer letter before filing reduces that risk.
Which employers actually sponsor H-1B visas for Content Developer positions?
Technology companies, e-learning platforms, healthcare systems, and large consulting firms regularly sponsor H-1B visas for Content Developers, particularly for roles involving technical documentation, instructional design, or digital content strategy. You can browse verified sponsors with LCA filing history in content roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers based on actual DOL Labor Condition Application data rather than self-reported information.
Can a Content Developer role be cap-exempt for H-1B purposes?
A Content Developer position is cap-exempt only if the employing organization qualifies as a cap-exempt entity, such as a university, nonprofit research institution, or government research organization. The exemption applies to the employer, not the occupation. If you work directly for a qualifying institution or are placed at one through a qualifying employer, your petition bypasses the annual H-1B lottery and can be filed at any time of year.
How does a Content Developer document work experience if their degree field is not an exact match?
USCIS allows a combination of education and relevant work experience to satisfy specialty occupation requirements when the degree field isn't a precise match. An evaluator-credentialed expert opinion letter can argue equivalency, showing that your experience and coursework together constitute the equivalent of a qualifying degree. The evaluation should specifically connect your content development work to the skills a degree in communications or instructional design would provide, not just describe your job history.
What happens to H-1B status if a Content Developer is laid off?
If your employer terminates your H-1B, USCIS provides a 60-day grace period during which you can change employers, change visa status, or prepare to depart. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before the 60-day window closes to maintain continuous authorized status. Roles in content development, instructional design, and technical writing are in steady demand, so starting your employer search immediately after a layoff gives you the best chance of filing a transfer within that window.
