Map your degree to infrastructure job codes
Pull the O*NET profile for your target role before applying. Confirm the listed education requirement matches your degree field exactly, because a mismatch between your credentials and the job's specialty occupation classification is one of the most common RFE triggers for infrastructure roles.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Filter your job search by companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for data center or network infrastructure titles. Employers already in the DOL system move faster through the H-1B process than those sponsoring for the first time.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsors
Search Migrate Mate for data center infrastructure roles filtered by employers with H-1B filing history. You'll see which companies have filed for comparable titles, so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness before you invest time in an application.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Look up your specific job title and metro area in the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the prevailing rate, so knowing the wage level sets your realistic floor going into negotiations.
Request a cap-exempt filing if your role qualifies
Data center infrastructure positions at universities, university-affiliated research centers, or nonprofit research organizations are cap-exempt, meaning your employer can file any time without waiting for the annual lottery. Confirm your employer's 501(c)(3) or research-institution status early in the process.

Find Data Center Infrastructure JobsData Center Infrastructure H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Do data center infrastructure roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as electrical engineering, computer science, or information systems. Roles focused on physical infrastructure design, power distribution, cooling systems, or network architecture typically meet the specialty occupation standard. Titles that accept any degree or lack a defined field requirement are more likely to draw a USCIS Request for Evidence.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for data center infrastructure jobs?
Hyperscale cloud providers, colocation operators, managed service providers, and large enterprise IT departments are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for infrastructure roles. You can identify employers with verified filing history for these titles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by job title and location so you're targeting companies that have already sponsored comparable positions.
How does the H-1B lottery affect infrastructure job seekers?
The annual H-1B cap applies to most private-sector employers, with USCIS accepting registrations each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, your cap-gap protection extends your work authorization through September 30 if your OPT expires after April 1 and your petition was timely filed. Infrastructure roles at universities or qualifying nonprofit research institutions are cap-exempt and can file year-round.
What documents should I gather before my employer files the H-1B petition?
Your employer will need your academic transcripts, degree certificates, and any credential evaluation if your degree was issued outside the United States. For infrastructure roles, project records, professional certifications such as BICSI or Uptime Institute accreditations, and a detailed job description tying your daily duties to your degree field all strengthen the specialty occupation argument. USCIS may request a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator if your degree is foreign.
Can I change employers while on an H-1B in a data center infrastructure role?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, without waiting for approval, provided your current petition has been approved for at least 180 days. Your new employer must file a separate LCA with DOL and submit a new I-129 petition to USCIS before your first day at the new company.
