Verify your role meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires that Asset Protection Specialist positions demand a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile for this occupation and confirm your employer's job description aligns with those education requirements before accepting an offer.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Use Migrate Mate to filter Asset Protection Specialist roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation code, so you're applying to companies with a documented history of H-1B sponsorship rather than guessing at willingness.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Run your target city and SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search before discussing compensation. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the prevailing wage for your location, so knowing the threshold protects you from an offer that can't survive the filing.
Confirm employer E-Verify enrollment early
H-1B employers must complete I-9 verification through E-Verify. Ask during the interview process whether the company is enrolled. A non-enrolled employer cannot legally employ you on H-1B status, and discovering this after an offer is extended wastes your cap-subject registration slot.
File your I-129 with premium processing
Asset protection roles often have fixed start dates tied to retail cycles or fiscal quarters. Premium processing gets USCIS to adjudicate your I-129 within 15 business days, giving you a confirmed start date instead of waiting months during standard processing.
Document degree-to-role fit in your petition
Asset Protection Specialist RFEs frequently challenge whether a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or loss prevention is truly required. Include your employer's internal job classification, any professional certifications like CFI or LPC, and a detailed position description that ties your degree field to the role's core duties.

Does an Asset Protection Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires that the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as criminal justice, business administration, or information security. Generic titles with no degree requirement won't qualify. Employers should document in the petition why a specific degree is essential, not merely preferred, for the duties involved.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Asset Protection Specialist positions?
Large retail chains, logistics and supply chain companies, financial institutions, and corporate security firms are the most active H-1B sponsors for this occupation. You can identify employers with verified filing history for this role on Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies that have filed LCAs specifically for asset protection positions.
What SOC code is used for Asset Protection Specialist roles on the LCA?
Most employers file under SOC 33-9099 (Protective Service Workers, All Other) or 11-9199 (Managers, All Other) depending on seniority. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage your employer must certify on the LCA, so confirming the correct code early ensures your offered salary meets DOL requirements for your specific location and role level.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if my Asset Protection Specialist role changes companies?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you transfer to a new employer once your petition has been pending for 180 days or has been approved. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, and you can start working as soon as the transfer receipt notice is issued, without waiting for final approval.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect my timeline for starting an Asset Protection Specialist job?
Cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, meaning most new H-1B hires in asset protection begin in Q4. If your employer is a university, nonprofit research institution, or government research organization, they may be cap-exempt, allowing filing and a start date at any point during the year.
