H-1B Visa IT Manager Jobs
IT Manager roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Employers file the LCA with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery registration window matters.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an IT Manager
Frame your degree for specialty occupation
USCIS requires IT Manager roles to meet the specialty occupation standard. Pull your O*NET profile and match your degree field directly to the job duties listed, so your petition clearly ties your credentials to the role's technical requirements.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations are cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B petition outside the lottery window. IT Manager openings at these entities let you start without waiting for April registration.
Search LCA data on Migrate Mate to identify sponsors
Use Migrate Mate to filter IT Manager roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. This cuts out companies that list sponsorship as possible but have never actually filed, saving you weeks of dead-end applications.
Verify prevailing wage level before accepting an offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for IT Manager in your work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before negotiating so you know whether the offered salary clears the required Level I through IV threshold.
Clarify who pays filing fees before signing
USCIS prohibits employers from passing certain H-1B petition fees to the worker. Confirm in writing before you sign your offer letter which fees your employer covers, including any premium processing charge if you need a faster adjudication timeline.
Prepare for RFEs on management versus specialty occupation
USCIS often issues Requests for Evidence when IT Manager duties lean heavily toward general management rather than hands-on technical work. Your offer letter should specify the percentage of time spent on technical architecture, systems oversight, or engineering decisions.
H-1B Visa IT Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or computer engineering. USCIS scrutinizes IT Manager petitions more closely than pure engineering roles because management duties can be performed without a specialized degree. Your offer letter needs to show that the technical complexity of the role, not just supervisory responsibility, drives the degree requirement.
How do I find employers who will actually sponsor an H-1B for an IT Manager position?
Search Migrate Mate to filter IT Manager roles by companies with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. LCA records are public DOL data and show which employers have sponsored the specific job title before, not just which ones check a sponsorship box on a job posting. This is the most reliable way to identify genuine sponsors rather than employers who list sponsorship as possible without ever following through.
Can my employer file my H-1B petition outside the annual cap lottery?
Only if your employer qualifies as cap-exempt. Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government research entities can file H-1B petitions year-round without entering the April lottery. Most private-sector IT Manager roles are cap-subject, meaning your petition must be selected in the lottery before USCIS will adjudicate it. If you already hold H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to a new sponsor does not require a new lottery slot.
What happens to my H-1B status if I change IT Manager roles between employers?
Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition with USCIS before or on your start date. Under portability rules established by AC21, you can begin working for the new employer once the transfer petition is filed and accepted, without waiting for approval, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've been in valid status. The 60-day grace period also applies if you separate from your sponsoring employer before a transfer is in place.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for an H-1B IT Manager petition?
Your employer's Labor Condition Application must certify that your offered wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for IT Manager in the specific metropolitan area where you'll work. Prevailing wages are tiered from Level I through Level IV based on experience and responsibility. You can look up the applicable wage yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer is finalized to confirm the salary your employer offers clears the required threshold for your role level and location.
