- Engage with Systems Security: Assist in protecting the systems supporting the program operations by learning how to review scans, identify vulnerabilities, recommend remediations, and document the environment for security assessments.
- Support SOC Efforts: Work side-by-side with SOC analysts to monitor logs, identify anomalies, and learn how to manage Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) using SIEM tools.
- Research & Propose Solutions: Collaborate with a team of peers to research and propose solutions to current cybersecurity challenges, such as vulnerability management and automated patch tracking.
- Interact with Program Leaders: Gain exposure to ASA program leadership and participate in mentoring circles led by early career champions.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO DELIVER YOUR BEST EVERY DAY:
- Nimble Mindset: A genuine intellectual curiosity and the ability to identify and solve complex problems related to rapidly changing technology.
- Technical Communication: Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and security solutions to both peers and senior engineers.
- Collaborative Spirit: Experience working in a team environment to promote data integrity and system security.
- Cybersecurity Interest: Intuitiveness regarding the methods used for evaluating system security features and ensuring compliance with established policies.
THE MUST-HAVES
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Cyber Security, or other technical fields.
- Basic level Linux or Windows administration experience.
- Cyber Security educational or work experience.
WHAT YOU OFFER AS A STAND-OUT CANDIDATE
- Possess or pursuing a certification in the field of cyber security (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH, or Information Assurance, AWS).
- Basic knowledge of the hardware and software used in High-Performance Computing (HPC) or enterprise data centers.
- Basic understanding of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) or Vulnerability Management (scanning and patching).
- Demonstrated decision-making skills and a desire to learn how security policies are implemented at scale.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Cybersecurity
Verify your SOC code before applying
Cybersecurity roles map to multiple SOC codes, and the one on your employer's LCA determines your prevailing wage tier. Cross-check your job duties against O*NET to confirm the code matches your actual responsibilities before the offer letter is drafted.
Target employers with cap-exempt affiliations
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated entities can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery cap. Cybersecurity roles at these organizations, including research labs and federally funded centers, bypass the 85,000-slot cap entirely.
Search LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Filter by cybersecurity job titles to see which employers have active DOL Labor Condition Application filings. This surfaces companies that have already committed to sponsoring roles like yours, not just those with open listings.
Clarify clearance requirements early in conversations
Many cybersecurity roles at defense contractors require a U.S. security clearance, which H-1B holders are generally ineligible to obtain. Screen job descriptions for clearance requirements before investing time in an application and interview process.
Ask your employer to file during premium processing
USCIS adjudicates premium processing petitions within 15 business days. For cybersecurity roles with an active incident response need or a hard start date, premium processing reduces the risk of a gap between your current authorization and your H-1B start date.
Document your credentials to match the prevailing wage level
The DOL assigns wage levels 1 through 4 based on experience and supervisory responsibilities. For senior cybersecurity titles like security architect or CISO, ensure your resume and employer's LCA wage reflect a Level 3 or 4 designation to avoid an RFE.

Find Cybersecurity JobsCybersecurity H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Do cybersecurity roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations?
Yes. Cybersecurity positions typically require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related technical field, which satisfies the H-1B specialty occupation definition under USCIS guidelines. Roles such as security analyst, penetration tester, security engineer, and threat intelligence analyst all commonly qualify, provided the employer's job description explicitly ties the position to a specific degree requirement.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for cybersecurity jobs?
Financial institutions, cloud infrastructure companies, healthcare networks, federal contractors, and large technology firms are among the most active H-1B sponsors for cybersecurity talent. You can identify employers with verified filing history by browsing Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies based on their DOL Labor Condition Application data for cybersecurity-specific job titles.
Can I work in cybersecurity on H-1B if the role requires a security clearance?
H-1B visa holders are generally not eligible for U.S. government security clearances because clearance eligibility requires U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency for most classified access levels. If a cybersecurity job posting lists a clearance as required or preferred, verify whether the clearance is mandatory before applying, as ineligibility is typically a disqualifier regardless of technical qualifications.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect cybersecurity H-1B petitions?
Your employer must pay you at least the prevailing wage for your specific cybersecurity role and work location, as determined by the DOL. The OFLC Wage Search tool lets you look up wage levels by SOC code and metro area. Underpaying relative to the prevailing wage is a common reason H-1B petitions receive Requests for Evidence, so confirming the wage level before the LCA is filed protects both you and your employer.
What happens to my H-1B status if my cybersecurity employer terminates me?
You have a 60-day grace period after losing H-1B employment to find a new sponsoring employer, file a change of status, or depart the U.S. During that window you can't work, but you can interview and negotiate offers. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period ends to maintain your authorized status without a gap.
