Align your degree to the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to IT Asset Management. Information systems, computer science, or business information technology degrees map cleanly. A general business degree alone can trigger an RFE, so gather documentation showing the technical coursework.
Pull LCA data before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified H-1B LCA filing history for IT Asset Management roles. This tells you which companies have actually sponsored the position, not just which ones say they're open to it.
Check the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job level. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 15-1299 or 11-3021 before salary discussions so you know the floor they're legally required to meet.
Target E-Verify enrolled employers early
If you're transitioning from OPT, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled to qualify for the cap-gap extension that bridges your status through October 1. Confirm enrollment before accepting an offer, not after.
Document vendor certifications for the petition
ITIL, ServiceNow ITAM, or Certified Hardware Asset Management credentials strengthen the specialty occupation argument in your I-129 petition. Assemble certificates and transcripts before your employer files, since USCIS may request them in an RFE.
Time the I-129 filing around the lottery window
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're selected, your employer has until late June to file the I-129. Confirm your employer's immigration counsel or filing service is ready to move quickly after lottery selection.
H-1B Visa IT Asset Management: Frequently Asked Questions
Does IT Asset Management qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, IT Asset Management qualifies when the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as information systems, computer science, or management information systems. Roles focused on software licensing, hardware lifecycle, or ITAM governance at enterprise scale are the clearest fit. General coordinator or help-desk-adjacent ITAM roles with no degree requirement can be harder to support and may draw an RFE from USCIS.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for IT Asset Management positions?
Large enterprise technology companies, financial services firms, healthcare systems, and federal contractors are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for IT Asset Management roles. These employers operate complex asset environments that justify dedicated ITAM staff. Migrate Mate shows which companies have active LCA filing history for this occupation, so you can focus your search on employers who have already gone through the process.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect IT Asset Management offers?
Your employer must pay you at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job location and experience level before USCIS will approve the petition. For IT Asset Management, wage levels vary significantly by metro area. You can look up the applicable wage using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiations. Offers that come in below the prevailing wage cannot be approved regardless of employer size or intent.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change IT Asset Management jobs?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition on your behalf, without waiting for approval, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status for at least 180 days. Your job duties and degree requirement should remain consistent with the specialty occupation definition. A significant shift away from ITAM into general IT support could complicate the transfer petition.
What O*NET or SOC codes apply to IT Asset Management for H-1B purposes?
IT Asset Management roles most commonly map to SOC code 15-1299 (Computer Occupations, All Other) or 11-3021 (Computer and Information Systems Managers), depending on whether the role is technical or managerial. The O*NET profile for each code outlines the education and skill requirements that support the specialty occupation argument. Your employer's immigration attorney will select the code that best matches your actual job duties when filing the LCA with DOL.
