Match your resume to LCA job titles
DOL LCA filings use specific job titles that may differ from how you describe your work. Align your resume to titles like Data Infrastructure Engineer or Data Platform Engineer to surface in employer H-1B searches and pass specialty occupation review.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating
Pull the prevailing wage for your target SOC code and metro area using the OFLC Wage Search before any offer conversation. Your H-1B petition requires your salary to meet or exceed this figure, so knowing it upfront prevents offer-stage complications.
Filter employers by active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies with verified LCA filings for data infrastructure roles. This filters out employers who express sponsorship willingness but have no documented filing history, saving you weeks in the interview process.
Verify your role qualifies as specialty occupation
USCIS requires that your position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Review the O*NET profile for your SOC code before accepting an offer to confirm the job zone and education requirements support a specialty occupation determination.

Find Data Infrastructure Engineer JobsData Infrastructure Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Data Infrastructure Engineer roles qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS looks for roles that normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. Data infrastructure roles typically meet this threshold because the work involves systems architecture and distributed computing that presupposes specialized academic training. Check the O*NET profile for your specific SOC code to confirm the job zone classification before your employer files.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for data infrastructure roles?
Technology companies, financial services firms, and large e-commerce platforms file the highest volume of H-1B LCAs for data infrastructure positions. Cloud infrastructure providers and data-intensive startups also sponsor regularly. You can browse employers with verified LCA filing history for these roles directly on Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL disclosure data so you can target companies with a demonstrated sponsorship track record.
Can I switch employers mid-H-1B if I get a better data infrastructure offer?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 lets you change employers once your petition has been pending for 180 days or has been approved, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your current status expires. Data infrastructure roles generally port cleanly as long as the new job duties remain within the same SOC code family.
What does the H-1B employer filing process look like for a data infrastructure role?
Your employer first files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying that your wage meets the prevailing rate for your SOC code and work location. Once the LCA is certified, typically within seven business days, they file Form I-129 with USCIS. For cap-subject petitions, the employer must also complete the online H-1B registration in March before filing. Premium processing is available if you need a decision within 15 business days.
How specific should my job title be on an H-1B petition for a data infrastructure role?
The job title on the LCA and I-129 should reflect what you actually do, not an aspirational or simplified label. Titles like Data Infrastructure Engineer, Data Platform Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer can all support a specialty occupation finding, but the duties described must match the title. Vague titles paired with broad duty descriptions invite Requests for Evidence from USCIS, so precision in both the title and the job description matters.
