Engineering Technician 3
The Engineering Technician provides technical support for engineers and customers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. The Engineering Technician working in TRC Inc.’s Reliability team will be supporting numerous client requests for durability and reliability testing on the proving ground, coordinating resources and arranging support for Reliability Project Managers and clients. Working with and communicating with internal support groups including but not limited to Scheduling Office, Garage Services, Facility Support, Engineering, and Purchasing is essential to this position. Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components including responsibilities such as preparing and assisting with design drawings, maintaining and modifying equipment, set-up and preparation of tests, repair and diagnostic work, and collection and organization of test data. Position level is determined by the knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to duties assigned.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical support to project teams
- Set up, monitor, operate, maintain, adapt, and troubleshoot test equipment
- Prepare, support, and/or conduct tests, which may require modifications to established procedures with minimal supervision
- Ensure high-quality customer deliverables
- Use critical thinking and expertise to perform complex non-standardized assignments
- Work primary shift of 7:30am-4pm, but on occasion may be asked to work split shift 10am-6:30pm or PM shift of 3:30pm - Midnight

- Assist in the development of proposals and project plans, and follow budget requirements
- Communicate directly with customers and clarify their needs and expectations
- Organize and review documentation and record/report activities and data accurately
- Perform data processing and provide data analysis, which may include minor modifications to defined methods or development of data processing scripts
- Assist in presentation and report preparation
- Assemble or install equipment or parts requiring wiring, soldering, or connecting
- Extract engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources; identify errors and inconsistencies
- Develop or review design modifications and new designs
- Assist in the planning of tests along with test performance related activities
- Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes
- Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Qualifications
- High school diploma is required
- Associate’s degree in a technology discipline is preferred
- Diagnose and repair electric vehicle components
- 5 years minimum of professional garage related experience working as a technician
- Advanced technical knowledge with experience in a testing, research and development organization, science and engineering preferred
- Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools and machinery, welding equipment and/or electronics
- Valid state DMV issued or valid foreign country issued driver’s license
- Excellent organizational skills
- High level technical skills
- Basic project management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Mid-range to exceptional computer skills
