Verify your role meets specialty occupation
USCIS scrutinizes business development titles for specialty occupation status. Pull the O*NET profile for Business Development Managers and document how your specific duties require a directly related degree, not just any bachelor's degree.
Target cap-exempt employers first
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and government research organizations can file your H-1B petition any time of year, bypassing the April lottery. Partnerships roles exist at these institutions and carry zero cap risk.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filings under the Business Development and Sales Management occupation codes, so you're targeting companies with a real H-1B filing track record for your title.
Align your title to the LCA job description
Before your employer submits the LCA, confirm the job title and duties in the offer letter match what DOL will see. Mismatches between "Head of Partnerships" and an LCA filed under a generic sales title can trigger a USCIS Request for Evidence.
Prepare a degree-equivalency package early
If your bachelor's is in a field outside business or marketing, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member service before the employer files. USCIS accepts three years of relevant work experience per year of missing education for specialty occupation purposes.
Understand the 60-day grace period between roles
If you're transitioning from one H-1B employer to another, you have a 60-day grace period after your end date. Your new employer can file a cap-exempt transfer petition and request H-1B portability, letting you start work once USCIS receives the petition.

Find Head Of Partnerships JobsHead Of Partnerships H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Partnerships role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but USCIS evaluates this title carefully. The employer must show the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as business administration, marketing, or communications, not just any degree. Job descriptions that emphasize strategic deal-making, cross-functional collaboration, and revenue accountability tied to a relevant academic discipline strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most consistently for Partnerships roles?
Technology, SaaS, fintech, and digital media companies file LCAs for Partnerships and Business Development titles with regularity. These employers structure partnerships functions around product integrations and ecosystem growth, which supports the degree-specific framing USCIS requires. You can browse verified H-1B sponsoring employers filtered by role type on Migrate Mate.
Can my employer file an H-1B for me outside the April lottery window?
Yes, if your employer qualifies as cap-exempt. Institutions of higher education, affiliated nonprofits, and government research organizations can file H-1B petitions at any point in the year. Additionally, if you're transferring from an existing H-1B at another company, your new employer files a cap-exempt transfer and you can start once USCIS receives the petition.
What prevailing wage level should I expect for a Head of Partnerships H-1B filing?
Prevailing wage is determined by the employer's location and the relevant Standard Occupational Classification code, typically under Sales Managers or Business Development categories. Your employer sets the wage using the OFLC Wage Search tool before filing the LCA with DOL. The certified LCA must show your offered wage meets or exceeds that prevailing wage level.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off from a Head of Partnerships role?
You have a 60-day grace period from your last day of employment to find a new H-1B employer, change to another visa status, or depart the country. A prospective employer can file an H-1B transfer petition during this window, and you can begin working for them once USCIS receives the petition, not just after approval.
