H-1B Visa Headache Specialist Jobs
Headache Specialist roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because they require a medical degree plus subspecialty training in neurology or headache medicine. Academic medical centers, neurology group practices, and hospital systems regularly sponsor H-1B petitions for these positions, and the 65,000-cap lottery applies unless your employer holds cap-exempt status.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Headache Specialist
Verify your subspecialty credentials meet requirements
USCIS scrutinizes whether a Headache Specialist role requires a specifically related degree. Document that your neurology residency and headache fellowship directly support the position, not just a general medical degree, to preempt a Request for Evidence.
Target cap-exempt employers first
Hospitals affiliated with universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government facilities are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition bypasses the lottery entirely. Prioritize these settings when you're job searching to avoid a full annual wait cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified H-1B sponsors
Search Migrate Mate to identify headache and neurology employers with active H-1B LCA filing history. This cuts the research time of manually cross-referencing DOL disclosure data to confirm which practices actually sponsor.
Request the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Pull the OFLC Wage Search for the Neurologist or Physician SOC code in your target metro before salary talks. Your employer must certify the LCA at or above the applicable DOL wage level, and knowing the tier protects you from an underpay filing.
Align your start date with cap-gap protections
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT or another status, USCIS cap-gap rules may bridge your authorization until October 1. Confirm the exact end date of your current status with your employer's immigration counsel before submitting your resignation from any current role.

Find Headache Specialist JobsHeadache Specialist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Headache Specialist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies Headache Specialist positions as specialty occupations because they require at minimum a Doctor of Medicine degree plus completion of a neurology residency and, in most cases, a headache medicine fellowship. The employer must document in the Labor Condition Application that the specific role requires this level of specialized training, not just a general medical license.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Headache Specialists?
Academic medical centers, university-affiliated neurology departments, and nonprofit hospital systems sponsor the largest share of Headache Specialist H-1B petitions. These employers are often cap-exempt, which removes lottery risk entirely. Private headache clinics and multispecialty group practices also sponsor but are typically subject to the annual 65,000-cap lottery. Use Migrate Mate to find employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history in your target market.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Headache Specialists at private practices?
Private neurology and headache practices that are not affiliated with a qualifying research institution or university are cap-subject, meaning your petition enters the annual lottery with approximately 65,000 slots available. If not selected, you must wait until the next fiscal year filing window. Targeting cap-exempt employers or securing employment at a qualifying nonprofit research center sidesteps this uncertainty entirely.
Can a Headache Specialist on a J-1 waiver transition directly to H-1B?
Only after the two-year home-residency requirement is resolved. Most Headache Specialists who trained on a J-1 exchange visitor visa face this requirement. Your employer must obtain a Conrad 30 state waiver or a federal agency waiver through programs like the VA or DOD before USCIS will approve the H-1B petition. This process typically adds three to six months to your timeline and requires state health department coordination.
What prevailing wage level applies to Headache Specialist H-1B petitions?
Your employer's LCA must certify wages at or above the DOL prevailing wage for the applicable physician or neurologist Standard Occupational Classification code in your geographic area. The specific wage level, from Level I through Level IV, depends on your experience and the complexity of the role. Pull the OFLC Wage Search for your target metro and SOC code before accepting any offer to confirm the employer's certified wage is compliant.
