H-1B Visa Hygienist Jobs
Hygienist roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in dental hygiene or a directly related field. Employers filing an H-1B for a hygienist must first obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL confirming the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for that geographic area.

Verify your state license transfers cleanly
Dental hygiene licenses are state-specific. Confirm your credential is active and in good standing before applying, since USCIS adjudicators and sponsoring employers will scrutinize licensure status when evaluating your specialty occupation qualification.
Target group dental practices and hospital systems
Solo private practices rarely have the HR infrastructure to manage H-1B filings. Multi-location dental groups, hospital-affiliated dental departments, and Federally Qualified Health Centers are far more likely to have existing sponsorship workflows.
Search LCA filings to confirm sponsorship history
Use Migrate Mate to identify dental employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filings for hygienist roles, so you're applying to practices that have already navigated the DOL certification process rather than ones encountering it for the first time.
Confirm the role meets specialty occupation criteria
Not every hygienist posting explicitly states a degree requirement. Ask hiring managers whether the position requires a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene before accepting an offer, since an associate-degree-only role won't satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards.
Negotiate cap-gap coverage into your start date
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, your cap-gap protection extends work authorization through September 30 of the lottery year. Coordinate your offer letter start date and the employer's I-129 filing timeline with this window to avoid an authorization gap.
Request premium processing for time-sensitive placements
Dental staffing cycles often have firm start dates tied to patient schedules. Ask your sponsoring employer to file Form I-907 alongside the I-129 so USCIS adjudicates the petition within 15 business days rather than several months.

Find Hygienist JobsHygienist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a hygienist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, if the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in dental hygiene or a closely related field as a minimum condition for the position. USCIS evaluates the job duties and degree requirement, not just the job title. Roles at practices that accept an associate degree as sufficient generally won't qualify, so confirming the degree requirement before filing matters.
Which types of dental employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for hygienists?
Multi-location dental service organizations, hospital-based dental clinics, and Federally Qualified Health Centers sponsor H-1B hygienists most consistently because they have established HR and legal resources. Solo private practices can sponsor but often lack internal infrastructure. You can identify employers with verified H-1B LCA filings for hygienist roles on Migrate Mate before applying.
How does state dental hygiene licensure affect the H-1B petition?
USCIS requires that an H-1B beneficiary be qualified to perform the job at the time of filing, which for hygienists means holding a valid state dental hygiene license or demonstrating eligibility to obtain one. If you're licensed in one state but accepting a role in another, you'll typically need to apply for licensure by credentials in the new state before or shortly after filing.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for H-1B hygienist positions?
Before filing the I-129, the sponsoring employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL confirming the offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for a hygienist in that specific geographic area and experience level. You can look up the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search tool, which uses Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational wage data.
Can a hygienist work part-time on an H-1B visa?
Yes, USCIS permits part-time H-1B employment, but the petition must specify the part-time hours and the employer must still pay the prevailing wage proportional to those hours as certified in the LCA. Some hygienists split time across two sponsoring employers, which requires each employer to file a separate I-129 petition covering their respective portion of hours.
