H-1B Visa OB/GYN Physician Jobs
OB/GYN Physician roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations, requiring a medical degree plus U.S. licensure. Most sponsoring employers are hospitals, academic medical centers, and large multispecialty groups. The H-1B cap-exempt status of many hospital systems removes lottery risk, making this one of the more predictable H-1B pathways in medicine.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an OB/GYN Physician
Verify your ECFMG certification early
ECFMG certification is a prerequisite for residency and attending licensure, and sponsors will confirm it before filing. Have your ECFMG status letter ready alongside your ACGME residency completion documents before you start outreach to recruiting teams.
Target cap-exempt hospital employers first
Hospitals affiliated with universities or nonprofit research institutions are often cap-exempt under INA Section 214(g)(5)(A). This means no lottery slot is needed and H-1B petitions can be filed year-round, giving you far more scheduling flexibility than a standard cap-subject employer.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter OB/GYN Physician openings by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history using Migrate Mate. This surfaces hospital systems and medical groups that have sponsored this specific role before, so you're not guessing at sponsorship willingness during salary negotiations.
Confirm state licensure timelines before signing
Some states take three to six months to issue a full medical license for IMGs, and your employer must list a valid work location on the LCA before USCIS approves the H-1B. Negotiate your start date around the licensing timeline, not just the petition processing date.
Request the LCA wage level in your offer review
Ask your employer's legal team which DOL prevailing wage level they plan to use on the Labor Condition Application. OB/GYN roles are typically filed at Level II or III. Cross-check using the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the offered salary meets the certified wage requirement.
Use O*NET to document specialty occupation standing
If your employer receives a Request for Evidence on specialty occupation, the O*NET occupation profile for OB/GYN Physicians documents the degree requirement. Attach it to your RFE response alongside your residency and fellowship completion certificates to strengthen the case.

Find OB/GYN Physician JobsOB/GYN Physician H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an OB/GYN Physician role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. OB/GYN Physicians qualify because the role requires a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in a specific field, satisfying the H-1B specialty occupation definition. USCIS consistently recognizes licensed physician positions as qualifying occupations, and the O*NET profile for OB/GYN Physicians documents the theoretical and practical application of medical knowledge required.
Can a hospital sponsor an H-1B for an OB/GYN without entering the lottery?
Many hospitals qualify as cap-exempt H-1B sponsors because they are affiliated with universities or operate as nonprofit research organizations. Cap-exempt employers can file H-1B petitions at any time of year without lottery selection. Before accepting an offer, confirm with the employer's immigration counsel whether their institution qualifies for cap exemption under USCIS guidelines.
How do I find OB/GYN Physician jobs at employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate shows OB/GYN Physician openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you can identify hospital systems and medical groups that have sponsored this specific role. This avoids wasting time with employers who list jobs without a sponsorship track record for physician-level positions.
What documents does my employer need to file the H-1B petition for an OB/GYN role?
Your employer will need your medical school diploma, ECFMG certification letter, residency completion certificate, any fellowship documentation, and your current state medical license or confirmation that licensure is in progress. USCIS also requires a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before the I-129 petition can be filed, so the LCA must be submitted and approved first.
Does completing a U.S. residency or fellowship affect my H-1B status as an OB/GYN?
Residency and fellowship programs typically sponsor J-1 or H-1B visas separately from attending-level employment. When you transition from training to an attending OB/GYN position, your new employer must file a new H-1B petition. If you were on J-1 for training and have a two-year home residency requirement, you'll need a waiver before an employer can sponsor your H-1B, and Conrad 30 programs are one common path.
