Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Nursing Assistant
Verify your role meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires H-1B roles to normally need at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Review the job posting carefully. If the description accepts any healthcare degree or lists the degree as preferred, not required, it may not qualify.
Check prevailing wage before accepting offers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your SOC code and location before negotiations. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure, or USCIS will deny the LCA certification your employer files on your behalf.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
STEM OPT and cap-gap situations aside, E-Verify enrollment signals an employer's readiness to hire foreign nationals legally. Healthcare systems and hospital networks are more likely to have dedicated HR immigration teams who understand the H-1B filing process.
Search Migrate Mate for verified H-1B sponsors
Filter by Nursing Assistant roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history. This removes guesswork about which healthcare facilities have actually sponsored the visa, saving time you'd otherwise spend cold-contacting HR departments.
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
If your nursing or healthcare degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member service before employers submit your petition. USCIS scrutinizes foreign degree equivalency claims in healthcare roles more closely than in other fields.
File before the April cap deadline with a backup plan
H-1B registration opens in March and closes within days. If you aren't selected, ask your employer whether a cap-exempt facility like a nonprofit hospital or university medical center could employ you instead, as those positions bypass the annual lottery entirely.
H-1B Visa Nursing Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Nursing Assistant role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires H-1B roles to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific specialty. Many Nursing Assistant postings don't meet that threshold. However, some advanced clinical or supervisory NA roles at hospital systems do qualify when the employer documents a genuine degree requirement in the job description and supports it with industry evidence.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistant jobs?
Large hospital networks, academic medical centers, and long-term care chains are the most active H-1B sponsors for clinical support roles. You can identify them by searching Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with documented H-1B LCA filing history for your occupation code. Facilities affiliated with universities are often cap-exempt, meaning they aren't subject to the annual lottery.
How does the H-1B cap affect my job search as a Nursing Assistant?
The annual H-1B cap limits most private employers to the 85,000 slots allocated each fiscal year, selected by lottery in March. If your employer is a nonprofit hospital, a university-affiliated health system, or a government research facility, they may be cap-exempt. Cap-exempt sponsorship means you can start at any point in the year without waiting for the next registration cycle.
What documents should I prepare before a sponsor files my H-1B petition?
You'll need a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., copies of all academic transcripts, current professional licenses or certifications, and a detailed employment verification letter from any prior relevant roles. USCIS also requires your employer to obtain a certified LCA from DOL before filing your I-129 petition, so coordinating your documents early keeps that timeline on track.
Does the O*NET classification for Nursing Assistants affect H-1B eligibility?
O*NET classifies Nursing Assistants under a job zone that typically requires less than a bachelor's degree, which is the core reason USCIS frequently issues Requests for Evidence for these petitions. Employers must provide additional documentation showing their specific position is an exception that genuinely requires a degree in a directly related field, not just a preferred qualification.
