H-1B Visa Media Buyer Jobs
Media Buyer roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, or a related field. Employers file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery window matters.

Map your degree to the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to media buying duties. A marketing, communications, or statistics degree maps cleanly. A general business degree may trigger an RFE, so gather transcripts and coursework breakdowns before interviewing.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Media Buyer roles by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filings. Employers who've filed LCAs for this occupation code before understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer mid-petition.
Use O*NET to frame your specialty occupation case
The O*NET profile for Media Buyers documents the analytical, software, and degree requirements USCIS scrutinizes. Reference this profile when negotiating job descriptions with employers so your title and duties align with the specialty occupation standard.
Verify the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Run the OFLC Wage Search using the Media Buyer SOC code and your work location before signing. Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for that geography or the LCA will be rejected, stalling your petition entirely.
Confirm your employer's cap-subject filing timeline
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed for the October 1 start date. Ask hiring managers whether they plan to register you in the March lottery. An offer in June with no commitment to next year's lottery cycle effectively means a 16-month wait.
Request premium processing for ad-budget-sensitive roles
Media buying positions tied to seasonal campaign cycles can't afford five-month adjudication waits. Ask your employer to file USCIS premium processing so approval arrives within 15 business days, protecting both your start date and active campaign commitments.

Find Media Buyer JobsMedia Buyer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Media Buyer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as marketing, advertising, communications, or statistics. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are harder to defend as specialty occupations. Your employer's job description should explicitly state the degree requirement and link it to the analytical and strategic duties the role involves.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Media Buyer positions?
Agencies, ad-tech platforms, and large in-house marketing teams at consumer brands have filed LCAs for media buying roles. You can browse verified H-1B sponsoring employers filtered by this occupation on Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies with active DOL filing history so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness during the interview process.
Can I switch from OPT to H-1B while working as a Media Buyer?
Yes. Your employer registers you in the March H-1B lottery, and if selected, files the petition for an October 1 start date. If your OPT or STEM OPT expires before October 1, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization automatically through that date, as long as your petition is timely filed and pending with USCIS.
What happens to my H-1B status if my media buying role shifts to programmatic or performance marketing duties?
A material change in job duties, title, or work location can require an amended H-1B petition. If your role evolves significantly from what USCIS approved, your employer must file an amendment before those duties take effect. Failing to amend exposes both you and the employer to compliance risk, so flag scope changes to HR or legal early.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Media Buyer H-1B petitions?
DOL sets prevailing wages for Media Buyers by geography and experience level using the SOC classification system. Your employer must certify in the LCA that your salary meets or exceeds that threshold for your specific work location. You can verify the applicable wage yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer, which helps you flag any compliance gaps before the petition is filed.
