H-1B Visa P C Insurance Jobs
P&C insurance roles in underwriting, claims, and actuarial analysis qualify as H-1B specialty occupations when they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Carriers, MGAs, and reinsurers regularly file LCAs and sponsor H-1B petitions for qualified professionals, making this a viable path for international candidates with the right credentials.

Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and your P&C role. An actuarial analyst needs a math or statistics degree; a commercial underwriter benefits from finance or risk management. Mismatched credentials are the leading RFE trigger for insurance petitions.
Use OFLC Wage Search before evaluating offers
Pull the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and metro area before accepting any offer. P&C roles span multiple wage levels depending on seniority, and an offer below Level I triggers LCA compliance issues that can delay or derail your petition.
Target carriers with dedicated immigration programs
Large national carriers and reinsurers file H-1B petitions regularly and have internal HR processes for sponsorship. Search Migrate Mate to filter P&C employers by verified LCA filing history, so you're applying to companies that have already navigated the process.
Clarify specialty occupation documentation with your employer
Ask your employer to obtain a detailed job description letter before filing. USCIS scrutinizes P&C roles that use generalist titles like 'analyst' or 'specialist.' A letter tying your duties explicitly to your degree field strengthens the specialty occupation argument from the start.
Understand cap-exempt employer options in insurance
University-affiliated insurance research centers and certain nonprofit risk management organizations are cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions year-round without waiting for the lottery. If you're open to academic or nonprofit roles, these employers skip the April filing crunch entirely.

Find P C Insurance JobsP C Insurance H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Do P&C insurance jobs qualify as H-1B specialty occupations?
Most professional P&C roles do qualify, but the connection between your degree and the job must be specific. Actuarial analyst, commercial underwriter, claims attorney, and reinsurance analyst positions routinely clear the specialty occupation standard. Generalist roles with titles like 'insurance specialist' face higher RFE rates unless the job description explicitly ties duties to a degree-required field. O*NET profiles for your SOC code can help document that requirement.
Which types of P&C employers sponsor H-1B visas most often?
National carriers, regional insurers, reinsurers, managing general agents, and insurance technology firms all sponsor H-1B workers in P&C functions. Firms with dedicated actuarial, data analytics, or commercial underwriting teams tend to have established immigration processes. You can browse P&C employers with active H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate, which surfaces LCA data by employer and role type.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect P&C insurance offers?
Your employer must certify through a DOL Labor Condition Application that your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. P&C roles are classified under several SOC codes, and the wage level assigned to your position directly affects what the employer must pay. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify the prevailing wage for your specific role before accepting an offer, since employers can't lawfully underpay sponsored workers.
Can I change P&C employers while on H-1B status?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you change employers once your petition has been pending for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a closely related specialty occupation. For P&C professionals, moving between carriers or into an MGA in a comparable underwriting or claims role typically satisfies the same-occupation test. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before you start work.
What documentation should I prepare before a P&C employer files my H-1B petition?
Gather your degree transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., and any professional designations such as CPCU, ARe, or FCAS that support your specialty. Your employer will need a detailed job description tying your duties to your degree field, a certified LCA from DOL, and your prior immigration documents. Strong academic credentials aligned to your specific P&C function reduce the risk of a USCIS Request for Evidence.
