Align your degree to the role
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to business analysis work. A degree in information systems, MIS, or computer science strengthens your petition. An unrelated degree requires a detailed equivalency argument from your employer's attorney.
Use O*NET to frame your specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for Business Analysts to document the degree-level requirements USCIS reviewers expect to see. Your employer's I-129 supporting letter should mirror this language when describing your day-to-day responsibilities.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Technical Business Analyst roles by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filings. This cuts out companies that list the role but have never navigated the H-1B process for it.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your SOC code and work location before signing. Your offered salary must meet at least the Level I prevailing wage. A mismatch at this stage can stall or sink the LCA certification.
Clarify consulting arrangements with your employer
If you're placed at a client site, USCIS requires your petitioning employer to document control over your work. Get written confirmation of who supervises you, who sets your hours, and whether the I-129 itinerary covers the client location.

Find Technical Business Analyst JobsTechnical Business Analyst H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Business Analyst role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as information systems, computer science, or engineering. USCIS scrutinizes TBA petitions when the job description is broad or when the employer accepts degrees from unrelated fields. Your employer's I-129 support letter should connect your specific duties to a defined degree requirement.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most frequently for Technical Business Analyst positions?
Financial services, healthcare IT, enterprise software, and management consulting file the highest volumes of H-1B Labor Condition Applications for business analyst roles. Consulting firms that place analysts at client sites also sponsor at scale, though those arrangements require additional USCIS documentation around worksite control. Browse Technical Business Analyst openings on Migrate Mate to see which employers have active LCA filing histories for this role.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect my timeline as a Technical Business Analyst?
The annual H-1B cap is 85,000 visas, with 20,000 reserved for U.S. master's degree holders. USCIS conducts a computer-generated lottery in March each year for the following October 1 start date. If you're currently on OPT, your employer needs to file during the March registration window to give you a cap-subject H-1B before your OPT expires.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm placed at a client site as a Technical Business Analyst?
Your H-1B petition must list the actual worksite address. If you move to a new client site in a different metropolitan area, your employer may need to file an amended petition and a new LCA for that location. USCIS requires the petitioning employer to demonstrate ongoing control over your work even when you're embedded at a third-party location.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer mid-year if I change Technical Business Analyst roles?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for approval. Your new employer must file before your current status expires, and the new role must be in the same or a closely related specialty occupation. You don't need to go through the lottery again.
