Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Equipment Technician
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to Equipment Technician duties. An electrical engineering or mechatronics degree strengthens your case; a general business degree likely won't hold up under scrutiny during adjudication.
Check the O*NET profile before applying
The O*NET occupation profile for Equipment Technicians lists the education, skills, and tasks USCIS adjudicators reference when evaluating specialty occupation status. Confirm your resume language mirrors the documented requirements for this SOC code.
Target industries with consistent LCA filing history
Semiconductor fabrication, medical device manufacturing, and aerospace firms file LCAs for Equipment Technician roles at higher rates than general manufacturers. Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified H-1B filing history for this specific occupation.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Any employer sponsoring your H-1B must be E-Verify enrolled before your status is approved. Ask HR directly during the offer stage so you aren't surprised after petition filing begins.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer
Your offered wage must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job title, SOC code, and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating so you know the Level I through Level IV thresholds for your metro area.

Find Equipment Technician JobsEquipment Technician H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Equipment Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS evaluates whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Equipment Technician jobs in semiconductor, biotech, or aerospace environments with explicit engineering degree requirements typically qualify. Roles described as requiring only vocational training or an associate degree are more vulnerable to a Request for Evidence.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Equipment Technician jobs?
Semiconductor manufacturers, contract research organizations, and medical device firms are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Equipment Technician roles. You can browse verified sponsoring employers by occupation on Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing history so you can see which companies have an active track record before you apply.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Equipment Technician H-1B offers?
Your employer must certify to DOL that your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your specific job title, SOC code, and work location. Wages vary significantly between metropolitan areas and between wage levels. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the applicable wage tiers for your region before finalizing any offer.
Can an Equipment Technician be sponsored for H-1B if they hold a three-year degree?
USCIS accepts a three-year bachelor's degree combined with relevant post-degree work experience as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree in many cases, but the evaluation is fact-specific. A credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized evaluation service documenting the equivalency strengthens the petition. Your employer's immigration attorney should assess this before filing.
What happens to my H-1B status if I change employers as an Equipment Technician?
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for USCIS approval, provided your original petition has been pending or approved for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a substantially similar occupational classification. Confirm the new employer's LCA covers your work location and job duties before your start date.
