Map your degree to the SOC code
Technical Solutions Consultant maps to SOC 15-1299 or 15-1251 depending on the employer's LCA. Confirm your degree field aligns with the specific SOC code the employer files under before accepting an offer, since a mismatch triggers RFEs.
Target E-Verify enrolled employers early
H-1B petitions require employers to be registered with USCIS. Prioritize companies already enrolled in E-Verify, since enrollment signals an active HR infrastructure for sponsoring and maintaining work authorization compliance.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Search Technical Solutions Consultant roles on Migrate Mate to see which employers have active LCA filing history with DOL, so you're applying to companies with a proven H-1B track record rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Benchmark your wage against the OFLC Wage Search
Before negotiating an offer, run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search. Your offered salary must meet the prevailing wage for the relevant SOC code and location, or USCIS will issue a denial on wage grounds.
Document pre-sales and technical scope work separately
USCIS scrutinizes Solutions Consultant roles for specialty occupation status because the job blends sales and technical functions. Your offer letter and job description should clearly articulate the technical degree requirements, not just client-facing responsibilities.
Align your start date to the October 1 cap window
Cap-subject H-1B employment can't begin before October 1 of the fiscal year. If you're on OPT, confirm your EAD expiration allows cap-gap coverage through that date, and have your employer file in March to avoid a gap in authorization.
H-1B Visa Technical Solutions Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Solutions Consultant role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. The role must require that theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge. Roles that accept any degree or are primarily sales-focused may face USCIS scrutiny, so the job description needs to clearly emphasize the technical requirements.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Solutions Consultant positions?
Enterprise software companies, cloud platform providers, IT consulting firms, and systems integrators are the most active sponsors for this role. You can search verified H-1B sponsoring employers for Technical Solutions Consultant positions on Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies with confirmed DOL LCA filing history for this job title.
What documents should I prepare before a Technical Solutions Consultant H-1B filing?
You'll need your academic transcripts and degree certificates showing a qualifying field, your resume emphasizing technical responsibilities over client relationship duties, any professional certifications relevant to the product or platform, and a detailed employer support letter. A credentials evaluation from a NACES-accredited agency is required if your degree is from outside the U.S.
Can my employer start the H-1B process before I receive a formal offer?
No. USCIS requires a bona fide employer-employee relationship with a confirmed job offer before filing. Your employer must file the LCA with DOL and receive certification before submitting Form I-129. The LCA can reference a projected start date, but the petition must reflect an actual offer at a specific location and wage.
What happens to my H-1B status if I change employers after being sponsored?
You can change employers using H-1B portability under AC21, which allows you to start working for a new employer once the new I-129 petition is filed, as long as your prior H-1B was approved and you've been in valid status. Your new employer must file a fresh petition with a new LCA reflecting the updated role, location, and prevailing wage.
